The Role
Working on placement gave me the opportunity to speak to people of many different backgrounds (clients and colleagues). Although the travelling could get slightly tiring, it was made enjoyable by the breadth of experience gained from audit testing made it all worthwhile with no one day being the same.
Colleagues really valued me for what I bought to the teams both in knowledge and personality and were extremely helpful if I ever had any problems with any aspect of audit testing or revising for exams.
Guidance on the most part was great. A lot of the managers were really hands on and knew exactly what was going on with their respective client so it was really easy for them to give guidance on what to do and suggestions on how it could be done.
As I was working in audit, there would always be something to do each day for example audit planning or test of details.
A lot of responsibility for the low level testing and gathering audit evidence for testing. The complex areas would be left for those slightly senior to me or management.
I 100% developed as a person either through transferable skills of speaking to people all the time or the amount of analytical skills required to be able to carry out some of the audit testing.
The Company
General atmosphere was always great, warm and inviting.
Very organised from start to finish. Couldn't fault it at all.
I started my ACA qualification to become a chartered accountant and was sent to college to learn the content. I also had around 2-3 weeks of training at the start which helped get familiar with the jargon and software of PwC and the expectations of everyone.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Providing all the exams are passed and a 2.1 degree is attained, I can secure a grad job with PwC.
The Culture
There would be socials every other weeks and socials to help me settle in with others. Some of the socials were organised by other placement students, others were organised by PwC.
n/a as I lived at home during my placement year.
The office was near an airport so nightlife is non existent of course!
Charities, socials, a chance to be part of the NCASS committee, there was always so much to get involved in!
