    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship because I had a great manager and team and the office environment here is really welcoming and relaxed. I had a project to focus on while I was here that I managed with support from my manager that will have a big impact on the company and go to the Executive Board so I was happy that I had a lot of responsibility and felt like I really contributed to the organisation. I also got to have some variety in my work helping outwith other teams and doing intern fundraising which ensured I never got bored,

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel like my colleagues really appreciated having me here to assist them with business as usual tasks and hare the workload across the team. I feel like my manager was impressed with my work ethic and my ability to pick things up quickly. To the point where she thought she could stretch me further and give me more challenging work, which I really appreciated as it allowed me to get more out of my time there. There were also quite a few social events in my department, my team and with the interns that made me feel more part of the organisation and ultimately more valued.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I feel like I had a lot of support from my manager and had clear directions and actions concerning my project and what I was meant to do and by when. We had weekly catch-ups to make sure I was okay and on the same page and knew what to do. I always felt like I could ask questions and for extra help and guidance with my work. My mentor and the interns co-ordinator also made me feel supported with any other queries I had.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Day to day and week to week my level of busyness changed but overall I felt like I always had something productive to do, even if it wasn't directly linked to my project. Whenever I felt I could do more I would get more involved in intern activities to pass the time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was managing a project throughout my internship with support from only my manager and team director. So I felt like I was given lots of responsibility and often had to be proactive and use my own initiative as to how to overcome obstacles that appeared in my project. It was my responsibility to push the project forward and meet deadlines before the internship ended. I also had to go out of my way to speak to people from other directorates across the organisation to help me with my project.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel like the skills I developed here are life-long transferable skills for most graduate/entry-level roles, and specifically for the career I want to go into. As interns we had lots of learning and development sessions on things like project management, CV and interview skills, how to use LinkedIn and more. I also developed my time management, organisation and prioritisation skills tenfold, having to balance the different work and projects I had to do.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Casual, relaxed, friendly and welcoming. You don't have to dress super smart, more smart casual and there's always something fun happening in the building e.g. bake sale etc.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised in the fact that there were lots of activities put on for interns and a really helpful resources folder that we could access at any point. Any problems, questions or queries were quickly answered and dealt with by our coordinator who was just great!

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were lots of personal training and development sessions put on for interns and we also had access to mentors throughout our time to help with further development.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There are a lot of entry-level jobs at the company but not anything in what I want to do, but if I could I would stay on and continue working here. Definitely recommend!

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We went for drinks fortnightly I would say and most days we would have lunch together.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Angel is not cheap but I didn't live there.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • From what I heard it's pretty good but just very expensive, although I never went out on a proper night out after work.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lots of opportunities to volunteer and fundraise!
