    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My internship at Expedia Group was an overall amazing experience. I enjoyed the working atmosphere within the team, my tasks and responsibilities I already received after a short time. As an intern you get similar tasks and responsibilities, depending on you capabilities, and you get challenged all the time, which causes a high level of learning. No internship was more useful and educational than my internship at Expedia - most of all because you get prepared for the every day work-life.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Within the team every team member is part of the family and highly valued. As an intern you do not have the feeling of being an intern, as you are accepted equally, having the same benefits from the working atmosphere. The team is supportive in every situation and tries to make your internship as educational as possible for you, to get the most out of it.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers supported me from day one. In the first weeks they made me familiar with the company, the different departments and my future tasks. Then we got a catch-up every week, to discuss questions, doubts and most of all my development. The managers value the development of every team member, personal as well as educational development. I felt supported every day.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • From day one, I was continuously busy. The first weeks were important to get to know the team and the company. After some time I already got my own tasks and responsibilities for a small area. Furthermore, although I supported the team on a continuous basis, I was able to take the time to shadow different team members, in order to get a bigger picture of the work and different perceptions on certain topics. Besides the daily work, I got my own little projects, so the balance was perfect and multifaceted.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The responsibilities of my tasks was adopted to my personal development. With every day I got more secure with the tasks, I got more responsibilities. This was great because the responsibility increased step by step, within own projects I was allowed to manage. This influenced my perception of my own scope.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed and improved, helped me to finalise my studies with a more "real" perception of what the every day work-life in an international company looks like. Furthermore, as I continued working with Expedia Group, it helped me to have successful start in my current role as well as a continuous effective development on my skills today and for the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was amazing. Although everyone was working really hard, with much responsibility and expectations, the fun and joy never ended. Team members supported each other, had lunch together, and exchanged experiences. This is most of all due to the high number of international employees, which makes the atmosphere even more colourful.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The set up of the internship was very good organised. The company made sure I get to know not only my team, but as well different ones, to understand better the collaboration between the teams and departments. Furthermore, my managers made sure, that I will get the most out of my internship.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The development of my internship was very good organised. I got a fix training plan during the first two weeks and a flexible training plan for the following two. Depending on my development we scheduled future training, meetings to get to know other departments and created the aim I wanted to achieve with the internship. My managers invested time and effort for my development.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future employment with the company is really appealing. The internship was a perfect start to get familiar with the company, tasks and expectations and prepared me for the job. For me it was the perfect steppingstone from my studies to employment. Furthermore, the company shows the high interest in preparing their interns for a future employment and creates an atmosphere everyone would love to work in.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was not between fellow students I knew before. The social scene was between other interns from different location of Expedia, as well as the colleagues from the company. But I liked this because I got to know new and interesting people I could learn from, which had a great impact on my personal development as well.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The socialising in the area was great. For me I got to know a new cultures, which enlarged my horizon. This most of all was thanks to the great team spirit as well outside from working hours. • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in my area was amazing. the city offered diverse spots, either for calm evenings, dinners or parties. There were events, concerts as well as cultural offers to get to know more the city. I would say the area I worked and lived offers a diversity for every type of person.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there were enough activities to get involved to outside of work. As the area was really in the city centre you were able to get involved in charity, sports, as well as events for the evenings. Furthermore, as the city is very open minded and welcoming for students and travellers you were able to try activities or offers from the city.
