The Role
My internship at Markel was thoroughly enjoyable and gave me a fantastic insight into what working at the firm would be like. All my colleagues were extremely welcoming and I was also made to feel like a valued member of the team from start to finish. I was able to develop both personally and professionally over the 8 weeks and can't thank Markel enough for giving me the opportunity to intern with them!
Markel has a fantastic working culture and I really was made to feel like 'part of the family' from the first day I started. Everyone within the company was more than happy to answer any questions I had and even took the time out their days to show me what they get up to on a day to day basis.
My line manager was extremely supportive throughout my 8 weeks at Markel and gave me fantastic guidance whenever I required it. We had weekly meetings to discuss my progress and really helped to put me at ease throughout the internship.
Over my 8 weeks at Markel, I always had something to be working on. Whether that was helping my team out with day-to-day tasks or working on the summer project with my fellow interns, there was always a great balance. I often went out for lunches with brokers too which helped break up my day!
Given how junior I was within the firm, I loved how much I was able to contribute to the team.
I was able to develop both professionally and personally whilst I was at Markel. I believe the internship has improved my ability to work within a team and also present to an audience with both confidence and persuasion . There were countless opportunities to improve my technical knowledge too!
