    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was treated like a full time employee and able to input a lot of value in my role and was involved in all the usual office outings. I was given freedom to learn loads as well, and never felt like I was given a task that a regular full time employee wouldn't have been given.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I had the same privileges as any other member of the team and felt like any other part of it, I was given the same training, same tasks and much of the same responsibilities. I was as capable as any other member of the team which meant I had the same learning experiences.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Regular meetings and guidance was given, I was able to steer the direction of what I was doing on my placement to get the experience I wanted, I was even able to get experience in other departments to broaden my horizons and give me other experiences outside of the normal role

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Given the nature of customer support there were times that things got very busy. This was ok though and I enjoyed the work and was well balanced with quieter periods. I never felt like I had more to do than I was able to and could get help with my work load if I needed to.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was tasked with helping to run a customer facing program and was the contact for a program and was responsible for running much of the support focused side of this. I was surprised that a placement student was offered this level of responsibility but it was very welcome and I valued the experience

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The lessons I learned about my industry and a working environment were invaluable. They did well to train me not just in their products but for area in which the work was focused. I always felt I had freedom to learn something new if I wanted to and was provided with constant new challenges.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Good sense of comradely and fun environment. Never felt like someone was breathing down my neck to make sure I was still working. Always felt there was time for a laugh or to have a quick break from the work. Overall I think this meant I was more focused when working.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation was good, I had regular meetings where I caught up with how things were going, my performance and what I would want to do after. Towards the end I thought there were a few things I could have been included in and raised this feedback for future placements

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They offered me a job on completion of my placement, so I felt very valued. Throughout the placement my performance was shown to me and I was encouraged and praised for the work I did. The time I was allowed to go up to speed with the job made me feel very welcome and valued.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have a full time job doing what I was doing during the placement but with some extra responsibilities as well. I am really glad to have this role and felt like I earned it with the hard work I put it during my placement period and interest and passion I showed for the company

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was not a specific social scene for the placement students but this wasn't really an issue as you very quickly became integrated into the social scene for your department. This might not have been true for all departments but it was certainly true of the one I worked in.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Subsidised canteen massively reduced the cost of living, there was also lots of local accommodation for renting so transport was not an issue.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Pretty much no nightlife but a few good pubs for socialising with colleagues.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was multiple opportunities to attend events which meant more experience and you would usually be paid or given holiday.
