The Role
Deloitte is a company that believes in doing and showing. There are 3 important things I realised here: 1. If you really want to work on a project, show the enthusiasm 2. Improves the way you deal with people 3. Infinite opportunities to develop skills in your field of interest
Regular events within the team are a starter for feeling valued. These are the places people actually get to discuss non work related things and bond. Also, we had a lot of socials for placement students. There was a whole team committed to making us enjoy the whole placement year
1. Regular checking in by a manager I had a great rapport with. He would email me instead of vice versa 2. The senior partners also actually care about the junior level analysts 3. Each placement student had a coach and a dean for various reasons
Deloitte is project based so at some point I was extremely busy or else I was going home at dot 5PM. It’s such a good balance but it depends on how you shape the year. Apart from projects, there are so many skills training that you’re always busy which I love.
Responsibility is divided into 2 bits: 1. Project and team related - this depends on the project and how you prove yourself by doing the small tasks. For smaller projects, higher responsibility. 2. Personal initiative - I spotted an opportunity and started working on a side project which was basically me doing everything to present to the manager.
I can say this without a doubt that these are skills for life. I worked on my strengths and weaknesses which Deloitte encouraged. In academic terms, I have consulting related modules and all this knowledge is going to give me a head start.
The Company
This depends on how many serious projects are running and the department. In financial services, we were faced with a time where a massive project was kicking off so it was fairly serious but not dull. Deloitte just got a new building and it’s very tech savvy with the best views
For me a few things make up a good placement and Deloitte aced it in all of them: 1. Support - from colleagues and seniors 2. Opportunities to grow - learning from everyone 3. Networking - so many people from different backgrounds 4. Learning skills 5. Client facing stuff 4. Working environment
Deloitte has a set budget per person they invest in training no matter what the rank. Everyone gets opportunities to go on training either in the UK or even abroad. I learned a bit of coding, presentations, client related stuff, financial markets and whole range of diverse things that help me be a holistic thinker.

I would highly recommend getting job with them. They intake a lot of people and also put them in departments according to their skills. They do that because they have HR experts and I never thought I would work in Insurance but I absolutely loved it. They also give a chance to change departments
The Culture
Deloitte is all about socialising and having fun for all the work put into projects. Placement students have 1 social confirmed at the start of every month. On top of that, there are team socials also at least once a month which makes it so much fun after a long day of work
London is an expensive city and it is very important to budget there. It’s very easy to get carried away by things and spending more because there is so much to do in London. However, some support from my colleagues and seniors and I was able to budget and have an amazing year.
London has the best nightlife in the world. So many places to be, things to do and there are work famous DJ’s coming all the time. There are several rooftop bars that just show the concrete jungle that’s filled with opportunities. At the same time, biking at night in London is also beautiful.
Deloitte invests heavily in training and also co sponsors several events like the innovate finance conference and adobe marketing conference. These give exposure to so many other things going on in the world. In terms of training, I got involved in one training minimum per month to explain the extent of investment.
