    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I very much enjoyed my internship, it was fast-paced and challenging while also giving me a very good insight into how the company operated. I was given plenty of responsibility but was fully supported throughout my experience such that i did not feel like i was overwhelmed at any point. Great overall.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues valued my work highly. I was able to help with various projects and after the first couple of weeks, interactions with other members of the firm felt friendly and comfortable even participating in friendly banter with those in the office positions around me. Everyone made me feel very welcome.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had support from two main individuals. Firstly, a personal 'buddy' that was assigned to me prior to starting my placement and with whom i had correspondence leading up to my placement and supportive meetings throughout. Secondly, a more senior colleague looked after me in terms of pushing a lot of high level work my way so i was constantly involved and engaged.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was provided with a range of projects and tasks that kept me busy at all times. This even involved an out of office visit to a client. On top of this, we were provided with training courses that we could complete online between other pieces of work that ensured we were never quiet.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Personally i was given a large amount of responsibility. Very early into my placement i was assigned to a large project which culminated in drafting a 20+ page memo for a large international client. I then coordinated amendments for senior individuals and formatted them such that we had a high quality final product.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a lot of skills from my placement including, but not limited to: time management; work ethic and drive; prioritisation of tasks; asking for assistance when necessary and working in large and small teams. These skills will assist me in my studies but are also important life lessons that will help me improve as a person.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. Those around me took good care to make sure i was never bored or overworked but had a balance of tasks throughout the day. On top of this, some members of staff acted in a pastoral way, offering support for the questions i had over the placement.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was organised very well all in all. We were assigned buddies before we began and 'champions' who oversaw our group as a whole. On top of this, a range of social events were put on. These included a welcome and leaving drinks, but also office rounders and a squash match.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested time and effort into ensuring i developed over the course of my time there. I saw myself improving at tasks assigned to me as i remembered things that i had been taught, either in person or via the large selection of online training videos that guided us through our placement.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The prospects within the organisation are nearly boundless. Towards the end of my internship with the firm, the career pathway was laid out to me. If offers clear and simple progression whereby you meet criteria which are reviewed on a quarterly basis and promoted as you improve. Very exited about these prospects.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The fellow students were very easy to get along with and we were actively encouraged to spend time together in order to trade experiences and learning opportunities. We had a great time together over almost ever lunch time and this improved my experience overall. I have kept up with the guys i was with since.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Fortunately i was able to stay at home and commute into work. The commute was not overtly expensive but the area itself is reasonably expensive due to its close proximity to London. This made time spent out the office a bit more expensive but as we didnt go out too often it was a nice treat

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in the area is known to be very good. During our time their we spent two nights out together but as we had work the next day we did not stay out late enough to view the entire area and what it had to offer. The time we did spend was good however.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Plenty of external activities were laid on over the time of my placement. For me personally i was able to get in with a group that play squash too. I play squash to quite a high level at the university i attend so looked to continue at my placement which i was able to do.
