    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship. It was 6 weeks long and I was based in the Transaction Management team. The 6 week period is a perfect amount of time to fully delve into the internship and get to know the company.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I definitely felt valued by my colleagues. Everybody in the team were extremely welcoming and wanted me to get the most out of my internship. They tried to include me in as many different projects and meetings as possible, which was not only beneficial for me but also meant that I was able to get involved and contribute.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager and team were very supportive and wanted me to get the most out of the internship and my colleagues would frequently check on how I was doing. Everybody was so friendly and approachable, so it was really easy to ask for guidance. I learnt a lot just by asking questions and talking to people in the team, but I also took it upon myself to talk to several different departments to get a feel of what other people/teams in the company do. Everybody that I spoke to was genuinely interested in my career path and were happy to offer any guidance, which was very encouraging.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was always quite busy, but my manager always made sure that I was able to manage the amount of work I had as I was working with several different people within the team.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Responsibility is always difficult especially if you don't come from a property background, but I was given as much responsibility as possible regardless.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am currently studying for my real estate masters, so I have already been able to utilise and apply the knowledge I gained from my internship as well as the Excel skills that I picked up, which I have found particularly useful. I was also exposed to systems such as CoStar and Argus during my internship and I have since been able to familiarise myself with them more during my course.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a very sociable and friendly office, it was very obvious that everybody enjoyed working there and with each other. There would also often be after work drinks on Thursdays or Fridays. In terms of social events, my team in particular hold a Pizza and Prosecco event at the end of every month, which was not only great fun but also a great opportunity to speak to the rest of the team in a relaxed environment.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very organised and structured. We were given all the necessary information of our internship on our first induction day, which included a list of various skill workshops and graduate event that were in place for us. Skill workshops included presentation skills, personal brand and business etiquette skills, and the 'day in the life of a graduate' presentation. We also had the task to set out our goals for the internship on the first day, which was great as you were then able to work towards those goals. These were then reviewed at the end of the internship. The only downfall of the organisation is that it was slightly disappointing that not many graduates turned up to the grad vs intern softball- only 3 graduates turned up. It would have been more encouraging if graduates wanted to get involved and get to know us, and equally we could get to know them in a relaxed environment. Nevertheless, the graduates who turned up were really enthusiastic and friendly, and were keen to get to know us.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As above, training sessions were set up to learn about the firm, but also to help us with personal development. These were particularly useful, especially the presentation training that gave us valuable advise on how to improve our presentation skills, which we could then utilise and apply in our final presentation.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, I was really impressed by the company.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We were always going for lunch and/or after work drinks togethers.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living and socialising costs are what you would expect for London.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in central very good but we didn't go out very much.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work and these opportunities were broadcasted on emails and were very inclusive. I was able to attend several outside of work events, such as an inclusive network event that held a talk on Brexit and the potential implications on Real Estate.
