    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very much so - it was clearly a well established scheme where people knew what to expect of interns to give them suitable amounts or types of work. Lots of opportunities to shadow partners/senior management. The six week scheme paid very well and was a perfect fit for a university holiday

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues were clearly used to working with summer vacation students. There is of course a limit to how much work you can do but you are not just left to do tedious admin jobs, they try to get you involved as much as you can. The team were keen to take summer vacation students for coffees too.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Summer vacation students were assigned a 'buddy' who was a second year graduate. They kept an eye out on you, making sure you got a variety of work and that you were kept busy. Summer vacation students were also asked to receive feedback from people they worked with at the end of the scheme that was done well and helpful advice was given

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Kept at a good level of busy - not too much it was overwhelming but enough to fill the days so that they go quickly. You would usually have a number of projects ongoing at the same time so that you had a bit of variety as well which was good

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As an intern in the office for 6 weeks there is of course a limit to how much you can do. However, it was far from being asked to do simple admin, everyone was good at trying to get you as involved as possible. On the occasion it was too technical/beyond your ability, they were good at explaining the context so that you could keep up with the meetings

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The 'soft skills' you develop during just six weeks are invaluable at university and beyond; analysing data, report writing, presenting etc. Also practice and develop your ability to work alongside other and in a team.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really good atmosphere to be a part of. The other interns, not directly in the team I was working in, were also keen to go for lunches or drinks after work. Day-to-day, everyone was very friendly and accommodating towards me and made me feel welcome

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well organised - we spent the first day having a general welcome to Deloitte and doing team building exercises. I was given my onboarding documents about six weeks before starting my internship with all the information I needed about starting in the office. At the end of the scheme, I had a conversion interview to get a place on the graduate scheme In the office, my colleagues were clearly used to having vacation students and were able to give me the right types of work

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • During the internship, you do not receive any official training. However, if you get a place on the graduate scheme, the first three years are spent taking professional Accountancy exams (the ACA with ICAEW), which involves Deloitte paying for your exams and time in college. This is worth quite a lot financially

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I got offered a place on the graduate scheme at the end of my internship and have just started recently (September 2018). It's so far been very positive and am enjoying the role. The graduate scheme is well structured, with clear goals to be hitting after 1, 2 and 3 years respectively.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Good - there was a fair number of us all working for Deloitte during the summer and the interns were good at organising lunches or drinks after wwork.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The surrounding area is fairly expensive, as you would expect in central London. If buying lunch out, it would cost £5-6 a day.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Deloitte's London offices are very central, just off of Fleet Street. Lots of nice bars and restaurants in the surrounding area, especially near Farringdon. HR also put on a few evening events for us after work on a couple of Thursdays, such as an open bar at the nearby bars which were good fun

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • During the internship there were not a huge number of obvious things to join but Deloitte definitely offers a large number of activities, from volunteering with local schools to large scale charity fundraisers. The teams within Deloitte also organise their own socials, which can range from table tennis to cocktail making
