Technology Consulting Summer Vacation Scheme Review

The experience was amazing. I was able to live a very good work-life balance which I did not expect for a professional services firm. All the events were first class and the career prospects obtained from this internship was priceless. Most of all, I have learnt more about the real world in this placement than I would have learnt in a course 3 times the duration

I was always given the opportunity to express my thoughts and do what I like. My colleagues would hear out my intentions and offer me the best help even though it is not work related. For instance, I was always offered connections when I needed something and everyone has time to organise meetings with me.

Both my managers were very considerate and provided me with any support I asked for. The feedback they have given me reflected what I have done and I received constructive criticism in a positive way. They would always offer me guidance when I asked and proactivity is the main thing.

It varies. Generally depending on the project, I could be working the whole day from 9 to 5 but when it is quiet, I could be doing a couple of hours (2-3) per day. Generally there is always time to sit back and relax if I am overwhelmed. Being on the screen is my choice, not my obligation.

I was given responsibility depending on my initiative. If I asked for work I would be given more whereas if I did not, I will be having close to nothing. It also found that if I showed dedication and gave a good result, I would be sought after for more work.

This placement was not related to the technical aspects of my degree and so it did not further my degree studies. However, it has helped my my team working skills and other essential skills such as Microsoft office and organisational management which will be imperative for my design project in my degree and my career beyond.

The office was amazing! Deloitte has just got a new building and it was no short of a smart office with very large spaces, a modern layout with a hot desking atmosphere. The was minimum segregation and you can see people from different departments and even ranks sitting together. There was an onsite restaurant which made the office perfect.

The internship was well organised. I always had people to contact and work to do as long as I sought after it. Sometimes, the projects depend on the client and I will be unable to do anything until the client progresses the project. Otherwise, Deloitte has done everything to make us feel accommodated and there were many welcome events (at least 1 per week) for us interns.

There was not much technical training and the firm focused more on training on the job. I was able to learn via the job and also out of interest. With regards to this, I wouldn't say there was much investment in training but the experience will count as a big part of my rating.

It is very bright. Deloitte tends to hire a lot of their interns for their graduate scheme and I am happy to say I am one of them! Otherwise, having Deloitte on the CV is always an amazing thing and the skills I have gotten working in such a place will bring me far for a future career anywhere.

Yes there was. The events were mostly drinking events so it was not too much my cup of tea. However, it was enjoyable and the opportunity to network was great. Staff of all ranks and departments treat each other well and the students often meet up in the events organised by the company.

Cost of living is high as it is in the center of London. However, living outside makes things cheaper. Socialising cost was also high but this was subsidised by the company making it free. I would still not socialise if I had to fund myself as the prices are quite ridiculous.

The nightlife was amazing. Everyone went out everyday either for drinking or clubbing. I cannot say much as this is not my choice of activity but there definitely was some sort of activity during the night. Otherwise, it is central London and many other small shops will remain open and so I will give this a high ranking.

Yes there is. I got involved with a board games club and a tennis club during my short stay there. These are organised by people in Deloitte independently and I have got to know them via networking. Especially in central London, I am sure there will be much things to do here!
