The Role
It was fun. I got to do work on a Level Editor that was used by the Level Designers on my project, so I got to interact with and help them. I also participated in various fun company-wide activities such as DnD, LARP swordfighting, board games and friday night guitar hero.
I was told what I've done well and what I haven't done well. I have seen how they reacted and used what I have done. I believe that they treated me equally and valued what I had did well.
When I first arrived I was assigned a fellow employee to guide me through the customs at the company and the places nearby. It also ended up that we had various hobbies in common so we ended up being good friends. I was also assigned a manager, with which I met up weekly to discuss what I've been doing and what I should do from there on.
I spent roughly 8 hours at work. Out of those 8, I'd say about 1 was used for lunch and snack breaks. The other 7 were work, but with small breaks in-between when I felt like my brain was overheating a bit. I didn't ever feel bored and I took a break when I felt that it was too much.
I was put to work on a Level Editor that was used by the Level Designers to make levels. The things I did were linked to how fast the Level Designers could design levels, and since the project I was was level-intensive, I'd say what I did was fairly important.
I don't think it's much of assisting in grade studies as in assisting in the actual games industry. The things I've learnt there are things I wouldn't have learnt in university. It's about actually putting your nose into the things which are happening at work.
The Company
Fun and friendly. The people in the office were the same people you'd drink with on Friday and play various other games throughout the week. They were also quite relaxed and open about what's right and what's wrong. Overall a really pleasant atmosphere.
They had a rough plan in place for how the internship should go but they were open about many aspects of it. There were various activities related to the Kingternship and I was given choices regarding which way I wanted the internship to go.
They were open with everything they did at the company and they answered any questions I had. There were various tutorials and personal development sessions throughout the summer that could be attended.

I would recommend this company to anyone who wants to work in Level Design, Game Design, Game Art or Game Development. I wasn't really into the other domains, but the people there seemed happy to be around, so it's probably good for those as well.
The Culture
Yes, there were various activities to bring the Kingterns together, from London and other locations.
I didn't live in the area I worked in. The work was in Soho and I was in Camden. Socializing-wise I socialized inside the company. So again, I can't really say anything about that.
Don't know, I'm not a Nightlife person, sorry about that. There were a lot of pubs and bars, it being Soho, but I didn't really go to them.
Yes, there were various self-development activities as well as board-games and guitar hero and DnD.
