    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a really good time. This hand-on approach contributed to my skills and my future career. I learned so much. From the start on I felt comfortable - I was a part of the team and had a responsibility. I enjoyed coming to work and I am really happy that I had this opportunity.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Definitely like family! It was a great feeling coming to work in the morning and seeing all these familiar faces. There was always time for a small talk or jokes. If I had a problem, my team was there and supported me. In general the athmosphere in the whole office was really friendly and open minded. I really appreciated it.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • If I had a problem I could always count on my supervisor that he supports me to solve this problem. Even when he was stressed and overloaded with work, he took his time for me. At the beginning I felt a bit like I have been thrown in at the deep end, however after a while I noticed that my supervisor was always there and this was basically the best thing I could have experienced and learned a lot.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I must admit that my work load was not really steady. The first half of my placement was super stressful. I had a lot of workload and on some days I didn’t even know how to handle this load. However, this challenged me and contributed to my personaldevelopment in a positive way: You have to be organised and stay calm. Other months were really quiet. There was not that much going on and I was not really busy. However, I had time to do things like the student handbook or to think about how things can be improved. I got used to it and it was not really an issue.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I think that I had a lot of responsibility in comparison to other interns. I mean I didn’t have the responsibility of a normal working person, but it was more than I expected to have. I never felt uncomfortable with it. I rather felt challenged and motivated. My manager had a quiet good feeling of what I can to and what would exceed my limits.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Like my supervisor always said: „Your placement is the university of life.“ - I learned much more than just placing orders in the system or how to use SAP. I learned how to communicate depending on the person I was communicating with. I learned how to structure myself and get a feeling for the urgent or important things. I expanded my problem solving skill etc. I definitely learned something for life!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I enjoyed coming to work. When I arrived in the morning the first faces I saw at 7.30am were the friendly faces of the staff at the gatehouse - This was great. In the office there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere. You always had a couple of free minutes to talk to people or meet for a cup of tea. I can remember that when I was ill, I was so happy to come back to work, because I have already missed all this friendly faces.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • When I arrived I had a tight schedule: - HR - Laptop - Introduction Etc. Everything was organised in advance. Also during my placement I really cannot complain about anything in terms of the organisation. Even when we went to a business trip, there was nothing I had to worry about.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I attended two trainings and they were quiet good. I still remember things I have learned there. After the training I always reflected how I do or accomplish things and how I can improve it by using the useful hints from Geoff. This was really helpful. I hope that all of the following interns will have this opportunity.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I start to work as a working student in Germany. I had a great first experience with Bosch and would like to remain part of Tje Bosch family. I am really looking forward to it. I really like the idea of going abroad and working for Bosch in an other country.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was living together with 3 other Bosch interns in a house. Besides, I always had lunch with other interns. Within the week we cooked, played Badminton or Pool. At the weekend we discovered London and the beautiful countryside of England. It could not have been better! So also beyond working I had good time.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • In my opinion it was really expensive in comparison to what I am used to. However, as we actually all were students, we could benefit from student discounts etc. Besides, we got enough money to pay the rent, buy food and to discover London and England. So I can‘t complain.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Well, I mean as many of the interns I lived in Uxbridge. It was okay. I mean it’s nothing in comparison to central London or other bigger cities, but we had a lot of fun in the pubs and bars in Uxbridge and when we had the feeling of going out to a really good place we took the tube to get to London.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • To be honest I only was in contact with people working for Bosch. However, I think this was due to the fact that I was even living together with three other interns...so in the evening we socialed and cooked or went for a run etc. But that was totally fine for me. I was only there for seven months.
