    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship, as it was very structured with clear objectives and targets. The people I met along the way, both interns and staff were extremely welcoming and made my time here amazing. The transition from University to this Internship at CRUK was smooth, with guidance to aid projects.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt extremely valued, and to be given a lot of responsibility straight out of University was great! I've learnt so much at my time here at CRUK and think it's because of the companies way of working. Each colleague is trusted to do their own job, and this helps you to progress with whatever task you may be working on.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given all the support I needed and never felt left in the dark through my whole internship experience. My manager set a clear outline at the beginning and had weekly 1:1 meetings with me so I could have a conversation about my progress and development. I found this very useful.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On a daily basis I would say I always had something to do. I was not left bored or not engaged with my work. There is a good worklife balance and I don't feel as if I was overstretched. The workload was comfortable and interesting and I really enjoyed it!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility and independence to really own a project. I loved this and think it has developed me. I have learnt so many new skills through my internship. I had regular check ins with managers, to highlight areas which needed work, which helped me prioritise.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed are going to help me get an entry level job. I have had professional experience in a FTSE 350 organisation and this will be valued amongst employers. The skills are invaluable and I will be able to discuss this in future interviews, making my future job prospects brighter.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very relaxed and chilled. It is open office so easy to collaborate with colleagues and ask questions. There is always something going on. However, at times it can be quiet in order to get the work done. Overall I would say it is a positive office atmosphere which a recent grad would enjoy.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It is very well organised with a clear structure. HR really know what they are doing, and want to ensure you get the best from the experience. They inform all managers about what is expected so each intern should get the same valuable experience. Very conscious of helping improve interns job prospects.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The L&D team were great in investing in us and helping organise training and development talks. There were numerous talks in addition to the ones set up that we could sign onto. The intranet is an online source of information which helps build skills which are invaluable to an employee.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There are lots of entry level roles appearing on the internal jobsite all the time. Many interns secured full times roles for after the internship. Recruiters really invest time in getting interns into the entry level roles, and will happily chat with you about the role and the wider team.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, the interns were very friendly and up for socials. We also took part in intern fundraising which raised lots of money for CRUK. Not only that, working with other interns to raise money was a fun experience. There was lots of chance to experience responsibility amongst peers, and this was embraced.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, CRUK run many opportunities out side of work. The interns are welcomed like a full time member of staff. Anything my team were involved with, I was too. As lots of fundraising occurs the opportunities to raise money for the cause were vast. I did many things outside of work to raise awareness of CRUK.
