    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • An incredibly informative and well organised week. Varied workshops and shadowing opportunities, giving me a great insight into the daily acitivities in commercial banking.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • We were all treated with a lot of respect and taken seriously. We were always warmly welcomed by those who we were shadowing, and our questions were always answered in great detail.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Lots of support from our leader, and from those who we were shadowing. We were always given numbers, etc. of people we could get in contact with if there was a problem.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the skills I gained this week will be helpful for the rest of my life. The assessment centre in particular was a fantastic learning experience. I have gained interview skills that are extremely transferable.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured. We were given a series of talks and a layout of the week on the induction day, followed by two days of shadowing and the assessment centre on the final day. The timetable for the week was explained to us very clearly and all ran smoothly.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Very supportive group of down to earth people. We worked well together and supported one another. We also had time to socialise during the evenings as we were mostly placed in the same hotel.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given a number of workshops in order to work on skills such as pitching, presentations and teamwork. We were given the time and the support necessary to enhance these skills.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • We were able to talk to two people on the graduate programme, allowing us to ask questions about their experiences and fully understand the role.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight showed me how loyal people are to RBS, as many of the employees we spoke with had held their positions in the company for many years. Furthermore, we met some of the leaders of the support networks in the organisation.

  • The insight week was incredibly helpful in showing me what I want from my future profession and the values I hold in relation to work.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • My travel and stay in a hotel during the week were paid for, and I was reimbursed for a number of meals during the week and transport on the tube to the office.


  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, through shadowing and speaking with graduates we were able to network. On the induction day a number of employees came to talk to us, giving us an opportunity to network there too.

  • Networking between the others on the course was very easy as we were mostly based in the same hotel/the same area of London.

  • Yes, we were told about a number of work events with which employees can get involved.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, it was a very good experience for both learning about commercial banking and also to develop interview/assessment centre skills. This week also gives you the opportunity to roll onto the graduate scheme if you pass the assessment centre.
