    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my internship tremendously. I have had various internship during my studies but this experience was by far the most enjoyable one. There were two key reasons for this. One was the nice colleagues that I had who came from all walks of life. Another reasons was that I enjoyed the tasks that I was given. Overall, the internship allowed me to work on things that I am passionate about and to meet new people from diverse backgrounds every day.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues. This was due to the following key reasons. Firstly, my colleagues were always willing to give some of their time to answer my questions or to give their views on various things. Secondly, my colleagues were genuinely interested in how I was doing during my internship. I maintained a continuous dialogue with many people, and getting their support showed me that they valued me as a colleague.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given continuous support by the management. Everything was laid out crystal clear and the management was always checking on how me and the other interns were doing. I had regular (e.g. weekly) catch-ups with my manager, buddy, mentor and other people, which was helpful. The guidance that I got was a key part of my pleasant internship experience.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was extremely busy on more or less every single day of my internship. I consider this a very positive thing and I think it also reflects on the responsibility that I was given. Even though I was very busy throughout the summer, I still feel that there was a good balance of work. My manager and colleagues were also very well aware of my workload, which was helpful.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Overall, I got a lot of responsibility. There was one project in particular that I worked on where this was the case. The nature of the job and the short duration of my internship obviously limited some of the tasks that I could take on, but the firm was still highly committed to ensuring I get to contribute as much as possible.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed and the training that I received are highly relevant for my studies. As I was interned in asset management, the experience will give me new viewpoints for my master level studies in finance. For example, I learned about various financial instruments that are not covered in my school's baseline curriculum. I also got to present a lot during my internship, which should be useful for the presentations that I will give during the rest of my studies.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was very friendly. There was a clear culture of mentoring and helping others. Furthermore, going for e.g. coffee with your colleagues and sharing experiences was a key part of the atmosphere. I would also say that everybody around the office was highly motivated, which was reflected in a certain positive atmosphere of excellence.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship set up was very professional. The internship structure and content was laid out already prior to the internship. I was allocated key contacts right away from the start. I knew from the beginning what was expected from me and what my key tasks, projects and presentations would be.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested in me a lot. For example, the entire first week was dedicated to training and learning key things about the firm, the business and technical skills. Not only this, I had regular training (both formal and informal) every single week of my internship. Finally, all interns also got to participate in presentations held by numerous people from across the firm.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, we organised numerous events with my both my fellow interns as well as full-time colleagues. For instance, my team organised a welcoming event to my and two other interns in the team, which was a very nice gesture. We also set up small gatherings, dinners etc. together with the other interns on a weekly basis.
