The Role
This was a very rewarding process where I was given enough opportunities but enough flexibility to seek out other opportunities across different areas of the firm. The other employees were extremely friendly and helpful and created a very comfortable working atmosphere. There was a variety of opportunities made available to us as interns and it really is a great experience.
My colleagues treated me more than just an intern and got me involved in interesting projects and work. I was trusted to independently work on a project and my colleagues really valued times were good communication skills were reciprocated and regular informative updates are given. The feedback framework definitely helps with this.
My supervisor played a key role in my enjoyment of this internship. She gave me the guidance and confidence to reach out to different members and get involved in a lot of different projects. She checked on me regularly and went above and beyond to help me enjoy my time at the firm.
At the start of the internship, I wasn't too busy as there was a natural lull in the business dealings at this time of year. In the second half of the internship I was kept very busy with a large piece of engaging work. I rarely had to stay late and the company is quite flexible about how you work your hours.
I wasn't given too much responsibility during the internship but I was given a lot of freedom with the project that I was on in my second half of the internship. As you progressively deliver on projects other workers are more inclined to give me your responsibility with regards to the nature and scope of work.
Not yet applicable as I haven't yet returned to my studies, but I would pre-emptively say that this has been a very informative and useful experience.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was definitely conducive to effective work. Everyone was friendly but determined and always willing to find time in their day to talk about the work they do or help teach and give guidance about a certain topic or piece of work. The office set up was very modern and interesting also.
The organisation could have been slightly better at the start with regards to the allocation of work , so interns were ready from day one. But as time went on, the organisation was much better and I was kept busy enough to learn in the 6 weeks I spent at PwC.
The firm invested in a full week of paid training in relevant skills that would be required for the internship. This included a 3 day stay in a very nice hotel which was a very nice way to introduce interns to each other as well as more senior members of staff
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
The job prospects are very appealing although I have chosen to change business units. The salary and benefits seem to very competitive and as a company PwC is very well respected in the financial services industry. A lot of the interns were offered graduate roles off the back of the internship.
The Culture
Yes definitely there was, social schemes included the paid stay at hotel with a partner dinner with free food and drink provided. The graduates invited us for drinks on on several fridays throughout the internship. There perhaps could have been more socials laid on for interns throughout the six weeks specifically.
I took packed lunches and commuted from home so the only expenses I incurred were oyster travel fees so cannot comment too much about this
Not applicable.
Yes I was lucky enough to take part in a 5 a side football match. This is held every 2 weeks between employees from a variety of business units and is a great way to destress after work as well as network and have fun with a new group of people.
