    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was a very enjoyable experience, the work is varied with the opportunity to try many different aspect of Assurance and meet a large number of people. You are given a lot of responsibility and real work to be getting on with. I thoroughly enjoyed the internship and would highly recommend.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • You are exposed to all levels of management, all of whom respect you and the position you're in. Everyone I have interacted with has been very respectful and polite and understanding of my experience. Everyone I've met at PwC has been good fun to be around and work with. I felt very valued and appreciated with the work I was assigned.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Any time I had a question or didn't understand the work I was assigned, the management were very understanding and supportive to ensure you understood the task and the overall purpose of the task. The work was frequently reviewed and feedback given. At the beginning of the internship I was given training and support and the opportunity to ask questions about our work day to day.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Depending on where I was working, there would be a reasonable amount of travel time, and there were times where a shorter lunch would be taken or worked for half hour past 17:30, but this was never forced, but was helpful to get the work completed in time. There was never a time when I would be sitting with nothing to do.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A large amount, parts of the audit file were assigned to me and I was in charge of working through it, raising queries with the client and leaving coaching notes for those who would be picking up our work. The work I would be doing would form part of the real audit file and I would be expected to email clients to raise queries.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learned a lot of independence skills, and my communication skills definitely improved from speaking and working with so many people. Also the specific job related skills would definitely help if I was to return audit related work. There is a real opportunity to try different aspects of the job if you make your ideas known.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There is a really lovely office culture and we would often go for lunch with colleagues and there is a lot of socialising by the coffee machine and over the Hangouts app. Everyone is very friendly. There are bowls of fruit around the office and you are welcome to eat and drink while you work.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised, I would always get a detailed introduction when I was starting new work. The residential at the beginning of the internship was very well arranged and was a really nice introduction to the programme. When on a job, work was delegated with clear expectations and guidance given with the opportunity to ask questions.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was very impressed with the amount of effort, time and money the firm invested into me and the other interns. The first three days were a residential with the other interns from the other UK offices where absolutely everything was catered for and we had tutoring sessions, meals and drinks. One of the evenings, we had a meal with someone from the senior management and that was a nice chance to ask questions about work.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Depending on your performance on the internship, PwC make the decision as to whether to offer you a place on their graduate scheme. As the screening process for the internship is quite stringent, the number of offers made is quite high, but these are based on feedback you receive about your performance on engagement.
