    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Internship at PwC cyber security was a good experience. In general, it was fairly well organised and allowed me to learn valuable things about cyber security, client engagements and good professional practices. My team was very friendly and I was always happy to come to work every morning. I am sure I will stay in touch with some of them!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues in my team were really friendly and helpful! They were always willing to talk about their work and try to give me tasks such that I can get involved in the projects or client calls. I felt that my input was valued and that they were happy to have me there.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • PwC assigns a buddy and a career coach for you, which is very helpful especially in the beginning of your internship. My buddy and career coach were great - they were both always willing to answer my questions and introduce me to their colleagues. They both gave me valuable advice about what to do in my internship and how to make the most of it.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Not too busy. In general, there was not that much for for me to do in my team, but that was partially because it was a less busy part of the year. Nevertheless whenever I asked for worked I was given something meaningful to do from my colleagues. I also had time to explore different parts of cyber and went to numerous coffee catch-ups. This really allowed me to learn a lot!

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • That depends. In general I was given meaningful tasks that brought some value. Sometimes I was taking notes during a call, sometimes doing some research. I did make a few calls myself, which was a very valuable experience! In general I was rather helping others than doing things entirely on my own, but that wasn't too bad.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Some of the initial training was not very useful for cyber security, but rather only for financial audit. Some of the training sessions during the initial induction were thus a bit of a waste of time and not interesting for me. But other presentations were good and provided me with a good introduction to the cyber security work PwC is doing. The skills I developed whilst working in the office were very useful - both soft and hard skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very, very enjoyable. The office itself is great, as it was recently refurbished to promote collaboration and be more friendly (think big tables and meeting booths). My team was great - they were all friendly and they seem to all go along well with each other. It really was a pleasure to come every morning in the office. There was time and space to focus on work, but also to chat and joke, so the atmosphere was perfect.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The initial induction (out of office) was really well organised. We had some training, networking and team building exercises. However, the internship in the office was not always perfectly organised. Sometimes it lacked a clear structure. There were days when I was coming to the office and had to go around the tables and ask if someone has work for me. But in general I was given meaningful tasks so I am satisfied.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The initial 3 day induction was great. We had useful classes and some quality networking time. Later I didn't get any more formal training, but that was okay. I could learn a lot by doing things in the office. Additionally, it would be hard for PwC to invest more time into our training, since we were there only for 6 weeks.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Quite appealing. Their graduate programme is very good, because it involves several rotations such that you can gain experience across different parts of the cyber business. PwC really takes care of their graduates and gives substantial training. There are also numerous qualifications you can get further down the line (fully funded by PwC).

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We had some good social events during the initial 3 day induction, but there wasn't much organised later throughout the internship. I did keep in touch with a group of interns, so we were sometimes going out for lunches together or just chatting about our internship. In general other interns were very friendly and I enjoyed spending time with them.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is expensive, but everyone knows that... Food or drinks around central London are not cheap, neither is the cost of living. But you can find some lunch meals for around £5. Going out for drinks can be expensive. Having said that, there were a number of times were more senior PwC employees paid for our drinks or lunch, which was always very nice.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are good bars and clubs in London - in general, nightlife in London is really good. There is something for everyone.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are some activites you can get involved in, but I didn't explore them much. Some of my colleagues from my team were going running together every Wednesday, for example.
