    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The work that i was given was always challenging and interesting. it gave me the ability to learn about what i was doing as i had no prior banking experience before hand. I wasn't given jobs which no body else wanted, i was given jobs which were important and made me feel like i was making a difference

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The jobs that i was given helped save the other managers time and it felt like i was doing work that was helping rather then just mundane tasks designed to keep me busy. The other managers were always supportive, i never felt like i couldn't ask a question when i needed it.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Especially at the start of my internship when i still had very little knowledge of what i was meant to be doing, the management was always there to give me a push in the right direction and answer questions. whenever i did a task the management would always make sure i understood why i was doing what i was doing.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The problem was that i was only there for a short amount of time which meant that i wasn't able to be trained to do anything besides the basic roles off AMS. This meant that sometimes i was looking for jobs to do and asking all of the managers to give me work and was sometimes doing jobs such as organizing cupboards because i had nothing else to be doing.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • On the assignments i was given i was often on my own, when i was given a task i was very rarely micro managed which meant that i was able to go about the task my own way. My work was checked at the end to make sure i was correct as i was involved in important tasks but during the exercises i had freedom.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The ability to look at a problem and try to find out how i was meant to do it on my own instead of asking a manager has been a valuable life lesson to me and has made me more independent as a person. Towards the end of my internship i was asking very few questions and was completing my own tasks and responsibilities.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was always extremely friendly, everyone was extremely nice and supportive and i was able to join in with the office banter. What i have learned is how the atmosphere can go straight from friendly banter to serious work ethic and concentration within a couple minutes which meant that i was sometimes trying to continue the talking when others were busy.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship overall was well set up, the problem is that a 10 week internship isn't enough time to fully learn about the bank. We had introductory sessions in the head office which were a little dull because what we were taught could have been sent in an email and presentation and stopped us having to go for the day in the head office which for me ,because i had to travel in, meant that the day was extremely long.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company wasn't able to train me in anything big however i was given on the job training about the different roles and tasks which i was completing, the different teams took the time to answer questions and give me rundowns about what their job entails on a day to day basis.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would very much like to carry on working for the bank, they are all extremely friendly and i have thoroughly enjoyed my Internship. In the future i would rather go and work in a larger office such as the head offices however i thoroughly enjoyed the work that i did in the smaller branches.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I met all of the interns on the introduction day and everyone was friendly and in the same situation as me. many of the interns worked in larger branches which meant that they were working with more interns however working in the smaller branch meant that i had no contact with the other interns.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in general is extremely low where i worked, i Lincolnshire the cost of socializing is also very low however due to the lack of public transport it did mean that i had to drive into work every day which does get a bit expensive and would have liked to be offered a travel subsidy for driving 40 mins to work everyday.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I didn't experience the nightlife in Lincoln as i lived very far away from the place that i worked however for the people i work with they say that the nightlife is actually very decent and have compared it to places like York and other areas, and of course it is in the North so there is lots of pubs to enjoy

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Nothing really, I represented the bank at a networking event and cricket game however this was during work time and i was with my boss the entire day, however it was very enjoyable and it was a nice change from the work that i was doing and i would definitely do it again

    1/5
