The Role
The internship was a fantastic experience. I would have enjoyed the opportunity to spend more time on client site to gain a real insight as to what the job will be like when I re-join as a graduate. My fellow interns however spent the majority of their time on client site so I understand the limitations that prevented me from being able to do so for example the time of the year and the lack of information disclosed by the client.
I used my accounting background to throw myself into my work and show competence where I could. This was received well by my colleagues and they made a real effort to explain the wider environment of clients and the impact of my work.
All the teams I worked with were absolutely great!
I was only booked on to clients for a day or two at a time after my first week so this limited the amount of valuable work I was given to complete. There were days when there was nothing to do at all even though I reached out to many people in the office periodically during the day. As someone who is very driven, this was my only frustration with the internship but again I completely understand the reasoning and can only look forward to proper work when I re-join.
On the jobs where I was given substantial amounts of work to do I performed the work well so was given a good amount of responsibility. I was entrusted to attend a client Directors meeting on my own which was one of the highlights of the internship.
Very much so! I study accounting and finance and was able to consolidate my understanding of concepts and gain real insight into how they work in practice.
The Company
The office has a great atmosphere. Of course some days were quieter than others with colleagues being on client site. But the culture of staff is clear and everyone was incredibly approachable and friendly.
There could have been more structure to the work set and client site availability.
The internship is a great development process in itself. There was limited scope to shadow other lines of service as that's something I asked to do to broaden my understanding of the whole firm.
Sports and Social Club
I secured a job at the firm and look forward to having a long and successful career at PwC.
The Culture
The social aspect is fantastic. There is a great mix of like minded people and I have built an incredible professional and personal network from this.
Cost of living was great. It wasn't a problem at all and we were paid for the internship which was a bonus and alleviates any concerns people may have about funding the 6 weeks.
Leeds has a great nightlife.
The culture of the office is such that you can get as involved as you like.
