The Role
Having completed this internship I feel as though I now have a much clearer concept of what the day-to-day life of an auditor at PwC involves which was, initially at least, my main goal. I was posted on a diverse array of different clients and got the opportunity to work on different aspects of the audit process which I valued highly.
I was always given tasks to do that contributed towards real client work and never felt that the work I was being given was worthless. For the most part, I was also given great coaching from team members setting me the tasks and always felt free to ask questions if I got stuck.
I was fortunate enough to have a great people manager during my 6 weeks here who I felt genuinely cared about my performance and progression during my short stint at PwC. We had regular catch-ups and I always felt comfortable getting into contact with her without feeling like a burdensome intern. She even replied whilst on holiday which I greatly appreciated and further highlighted her commitment to my personal development at the firm!
I was always kept on my toes and never felt as though the team had "run out" of work for me to do which was great. Nevertheless, I did not feel as though I was being rushed or overloaded with work and appreciated that my peers understood that it sometimes took time to get my head round things initially.
As aforementioned, I was always given work to do on live projects and was given access to the same information that full-time employees had thus allowing me to do the work to the best of my ability. On numerous occasions towards the end of the internship when I was on client sites I was allowed to have interactions with the client one-to-one which emphasises the level of responsibility I was given.
Although my degree subject is unrelated to accountancy and finance, I left the internship having greatly improved my technical and business skills. I believe that I now have a sound knowledge of the basic accounting principles along with a greater understanding what a financial statement is composed of which I'm sure will be useful in later life and for any career in the financial sector.
The Company
There was always a positive and can-do attitude with those who I worked with and there were numerous social events that were both formally planned by the firm and some more informal ones too.
I was always kept in the loop about what jobs I would be on during my 6 weeks. I appreciated the diversity of clients I was put on along with the diversity of tasks I was given to complete. Also, for the vast majority of times I was coached by peers, it didn't feel rushed and I could ask as many questions as I needed.
All the interns took part in a residential training course and as mentioned above, the other team members I worked with were always encouraging me to ask questions if I got stuck. We were also all assigned a dedicated people manager who was there for our pastoral needs as well as for asking any work-related questions.

The Culture
Great social scene at the residential when all the interns nationwide were together. There was a partner dinner and the evenings were often chilled and fun. When in my London office it quickly became apparent who the socialites were in the group and we tended to stick together and go out to pubs, etc. a fair amount after work.
Typical London costs of living and pint prices.
Central London speaks for itself.
We were all assigned to a dedicated social group and my group attended 1 large social during the 6 week placement but apart from this all other social events were organised by ourselves independently of the firm.
