    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The entire internship was an enjoyable experience. My office environment was a lot more relaxed than I had expected and the work was often engaging and challenging. Every person I had met along the way were very friendly and seemed like they very much cared about my future at the firm. There were points where I was waiting for more work to do but there was always something I could get on with in the meanwhile.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From the get go my seniors and fellow interns were extremely welcoming, making it feel like I had worked there for a long time. They are all people that I can see myself knowing for a long time. I never felt uncomfortable to ask them a question or for any help with a piece of work, and the socials were extremely fun!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All my seniors were willing to sit down with me and guide me through any task that I was given. They always encouraged me to ask as many questions as possible and highlight any areas where I was having trouble. They have always been very accessible throughout the internship, even in times where they were visibly very busy.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied largely from day to day. The amount of work I did was usually dependent on how proactive I was about asking for work or how quickly I got any work done. There were times where I felt that I could be more busy, but these instances were few and far between.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was definitely given a lot more responsibility than I had previously expected. Most of my tasks involved working on excel and with other software, but many of these tasks required direct communication with the client whenever I needed more information. I also visited my client's site on multiple occasions, where I felt I was representing PwC.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My degree is not related to Assurance at PwC, however I did learn a lot about the field of Audit in general, which is definitely something I could see myself doing after experiencing this internship. It was definitely a great insight into what work was like within PwC and it guided me towards what I want to do after University.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My office always felt lively, fun and welcoming and never at any point did I feel uncomfortable there. Everyone was extremely friendly, relaxed and open to conversation. Many times, it was at the point where I would rather be at the office than at home where I was living alone!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was exceptionally organised, especially at the residential induction, where we were given some courses to introduce us to our line of work and where we were given our laptops and other equipment. There were a couple of people who experienced some problems (including missing laptops and technical issues) but these were quickly resolved and happened to a very small minority of people.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt the firm was fully investing in me as a prospective employee. The coaching was very detailed and catered specifically to me with my seniors often guiding me through anything that I wanted them to. The residential induction was also a very clear indication to me that they were investing in us as the venue was incredible and several important partners had shown up to greet our entry into the firm.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The impression which I have gained from this internship is that PwC is definitely a place I would want to work. They really invest in their employees in terms of many factors, especially when they are developmental to our careers. I am eager to do well in my end of internship interview and obtain a graduate job offer.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is definitely a great social scene amongst the interns. Everyone is eager to meet up after work on Fridays, and the people I have met are definitely people I see being my friends for a long time after the internship. There are many opportunities to go out and meet them with them in the plentiful social events as well.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in my area was not too high, however this was not relevant to me as I had managed to find a place with relatives. Food and drink was generally cheap and there were plenty of public transport options for me to take to work and to events.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife here was very alive, with many clubs and bars open until very late. There were also many universities around the city so it was easy to find places where other students would hang out. Many bars and restaurants would also cater to students specifically because of this fact.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • My office had monthly office-wide socials, but alongside that there were many smaller socials that were always happening such as Paint balling, bowling, trampolining etc. Every week there was at least one event to go to which was plenty. I never felt that there was not enough to do outside of work.
