The Role
Very insightful 6 weeks into PwC (East Midlands Office). Very friendly staff, who are always happy to help with tasks. There was a huge variety in the work done and people couldn't have helped out more! Work was kept relatively simple for me so I could complete a section in full, then the full work described through.
Felt very included. Invited on all the socials and post work drinks, always offered to sit with them at lunch. Overall made some friends with colleagues. Given real work by all levels of staff (manager, associate) and given the feeling that I was really helping out (and encouraged to help out more).
Staff at all levels could not have tutored me better. The pre-internship residential gave a very detailed overview into the basics of the jobs and company. Support and teaching was provided on the job by colleagues. Explanations were good and they were never annoyed if you didnt understand something first time or had follow up questions.
Some days will be very busy with work or meetings. Other days will be extremely quiet. The quiet days were a nice 'rest-break' from the busy days but they could get boring. On the other hand busy days could get very stressful. Work was not planned out too far in advance so workflow was not constant
Given responsibility to carry out and manage your tasks. For example, research tasks we were given a large scope and told to follow our own intuition. Other tasks were more structured and the incharge kept checking on progress - which I saw as a positive since you kept getting feedback on work done.
Degree I do (chemistry) has little relevance to the work performed in the internship. Could argue that soft skills were developed and will help in the degree and my excel skills have been extensively developed. I used and learnt about a lot of new areas in the duration, not just about accountancy.
The Company
Overall the atmosphere was very good. Open plan office with a hot desk system in operation. This allowed me to sit with different people each day. Everyone knew each other, which meant there were plenty of conversations. In addition, colleagues around me were always helpful in answering questions or helping out with work.
Due to the lack of work in the office overall during the summer, there was little that could be planned for me to do. This meant there were very few tasks that were planned out days in advance, and most work was performed on a ad hoc basis for lots of different people.
Pre-internship residential in a Windsor hotel gave a very good overview of the firm and of the work they do. Most training and development was delivered on the job, with in charges shadowing, reviewing and helping out on the work I performed. Colleagues were always happy to explain the work or answer any questions I had.

Very interested in working for PwC after I complete my degree, This rating is before my exit interview (which is where job offers are given) - but I'm hopeful! There are lots of opportunities for graduate roles in PwC. Graduates can work in many sectors of the company in many different locations.
The Culture
There were loads of organised office socials during my 6 week placement. These included murder mystery socials, office video games night and weekly quizzes. These often were followed by drinks or a meal in Nottingham. Judging from the current associates there seem to be lots of socials throughout the year that take place.
Due to the office being in a non-city location, all socials required public transport or a car away from the office. The socials also were held in hotels where drinks etc. were quite expensive. Apart from that general living and socialising costs were pretty standard and you can spend as much (or little) as you want
Many of the socials were in Nottingham city centre so there were a few nights out there. From talking to many of the associates there seems to be a few work nights out into Nottingham or at least drinks in and around the town. These range from being formal company socials to informal gatherings.
There were loads of activities outside work. These included office football kickabouts, quizzes and drinks. There seemed to be year-round activities on too. The work hours (especially in the summer) were not too bad either, allowing plenty of time for post-work socialising. There are lots of office socials too for you to get involved in!
