    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a really good time on my internship. I found the job challenging but interesting and I would happily return as a graduate. I felt the people in my office were really friendly and welcoming and I felt I really got to know them all by the end of my internship.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel like the people I worked with were really good at explaining why I was doing a task and this was particularly helpful if it wasn't very exciting as it showed me the bigger picture and motivated me that little bit more. Everyone always said thank you for the tasks I was doing and gave really good feedback.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers were great for any advice that I came to them for. I had another internship after this one with a rival company and they were very supportive of this and gave me more time to make my mind up about the offer to cater for this. They were always available for a chat if I had anything to ask too.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was really busy for the majority of my internship. I often stayed after 5:30pm (however I was under no obligation to do this). Although the tasks I was doing weren't the most interesting, it was a real challenge to balance all the work I had to do and this made the time fly in each day.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility in terms of the sheer volume of tasks I had and it was my responsibility to get all these done at the appropriate deadline. I had a lot of note taking jobs at meetings which I then had to circulate around the department.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the time management aspect of the job will be useful in terms of my further study - how to prioritise certain pieces of work etc. The skills I learnt will definitely be useful for the graduate job, although they may not be completely relevant to my degree in theory.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great! Everyone was extremely welcoming and seemed to get on really well. The junior staff in my department went for lunch together every day and I was added onto the internal group chat on my first day. There was frequent socials and Deloitte would provide free drinks at the end of each month to the whole office.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There was no real structure to the internship but that's not necessarily a bad thing, it reflects working life. I had a people manager and a buddy throughout the internship. My people manager made sure I was meeting my objectives and frequently checked if I was wanted involved with any particular projects . My buddy was great for showing me the systems and answering any questions that I had.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • On the first day of the internship we were flown down to London for an introduction to the firm and we were trained on how to use the companies internal systems. On the last week of my internship I was allowed to attend some technical training which I found really nice considering I was leaving a couple days after.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I received a graduate job offer on my last day and i'm looking forward to joining the team again next September. I like the clear promotional structure of the firm, finding it motivating to work towards and I have a clear idea to the work I would be getting involved in.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Great! The junior staff ate lunch together every day and regularly had drinks after work on Friday. End of month drinks was also a great way to meet people in the office who weren't in my department. Deloitte also has an annual ball each year and regular networks which seem great to get involved in.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was based in Glasgow for my internship. The cost of living is very reasonable, especially compared to cities like Manchester/London. Rent is affordable however transport into the office (ie trains, buses) can be a bit more pricey. to go out on a Saturday drinks can be expensive, like anywhere, however if you find the right place or go out on weekdays you can definitely have a night out on a budget.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Glasgow great for a nigh out whether it be for a couple of drinks after work or a full on night out. There are a number of bars/restaurants/clubs that are near the office. There are various student nights on virtual every night of the week which is great if you're on a budget.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There is an office football and netball team and I know there is a group of people who would go golfing together on weekends. There was opportunities to volunteer at hospitals during working hours that a lot of the staff take part in. I've heard there are many networks in Deloitte that you could also get involved in,
