    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my experience at PwC and would recommend it to anyone thinking about a career in this industry. I feel as though PwC contributed a lot to the internship, and I was able to see various bits of work along with shadowing senior members and client calls. The variety of the experience really added to the enjoy-ability.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Right from the start I was given real experience on projects where the need for the work was evident - I was always given a background on the work and the client. The fact that I was included on work that would eventually go to a client really showed that I was valued by my colleagues. It was also evident as colleagues were very appreciative of the work completed.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My people manager and buddy were both excellent, they went above and beyond to make sure I got everything out of my internship. They organised me to go out of office multiple times and made sure I always had work. They also arranged for me to sit in on multiple calls which was a real highlight. I also received constructive feedback throughout my internship which helped my know how I was progressing and how I was getting on.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The work load was often varied with a range depending on the level of work in the office. Saying that, even though the season was not particularly busy, I was able to find work the majority of the time. It was common to have multiple pieces of work to balance at once, which was a good experience and helped me develop.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was happy with the level of responsibility. Whilst I felt like I was doing real client work, there was always someone to review your work before anything was sent off. I think the level of responsibility was higher than I expected and I would liken it to the experience of a grad.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed multiple skills on my placement, from balancing work loads and deadlines to writing letters and e-mails in a more professional writing style. My confidence and ability to network also progressed rapidly throughout my internship. I believe these skills will put me in good stead in my degree studies and beyond and were skills that would have been difficult to pickup outside of a professional environment.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was generally good. It was fairly relaxed. In saying this the social aspect of the office was lacking for me. I think this an issue for this specific office as it is not based in a city and therefore there is not a lot going on around the office. I think this would be very office dependant in terms of the experience you get.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was fairly well organised. The induction at the start was by far the most well organised with events clearly scheduled and you always knew what you were doing. Once you got to the office I was introduced to the team. There was not really an organised work experience, you had to make the most of your time and were expected to join in on real projects. Whilst the lack of organisation at the start felt like you were thrown in at the deep-end, it meant that you really had the ability to shape your internship.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had access to most PwC systems this included any personal development stuff. It was clear the firm invested a lot into all of the new interns, this was particularly evident at the induction event, where lots of money and time was spent to give us a good introduction and initial education.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The firm seemed to both be good for future career growth and cared about its employees. It is a very appealing place to work and I believe it would be an excellent company to work for. I think the firm is very forward thinking in terms of how they treat their staff and it is very encouraging - the environment is not particularly high stress and it is very friendly.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • My office was not located in a good location for social atmosphere and I believe this would be the biggest downside of my placement. Whilst it is easy to stay in contact to other inters a few more organised events, mid internship, would have been good to see. Saying this the induction was a great social event!!

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was fine and as expected. I did not have many costs so this was really a non-issue. It is hard to comment on socialising as there were not really many opportunities for this. As everyone drove in, socialising could be an issue if everyone had to get cabs/public transport etc.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was not really any nightlife near my office so unfortunately did not get to experience this. This is definitely something that I would look for in the future. In saying this I don't think it hindered my experience and I feel as though I was able to socialise happily with everyone in the office.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was not many activities outside of the office. There was a fully subsidised gym which I made use of. It appeared as though there was activities available but you really get access to them as a grad. It may have been that we just were not there long enough
