Taster Programme - Teach First Review

I enjoyed getting to know the charity of teach first better and what their ethos is. The professionalism of the charity and their organisation of the whole taster programme really shone through and it makes me comfortable in knowing if i pursue a career through Teach First I will be well supported.

I felt very valued during my time there. I could speak to any of the employees with various queries and i was given support throughout. Highly recommened anyone to do get involved with Teach First.

A lot of guidance was received. Especially from staff regarding various other teach first avenues - the staff were very informative and kept in contact well.

The skills i have learnt have been more about being able to discuss what skills i already possess and how they’re useful in the workplace. But definitely i have learnt a lot about team work and planning when we structured our short lesson plan.

It was done perfectly! Couldn’t fault it - the only thing that could have been changed was maybe a longer stint doing the teaching.

It was good. It never felt like we were inferior at all - we were treated as adults and it made the experience very enjoyable.

Its not like they could do a lot in terms of personal training due to the nature of the taster programme, but we did learn a lot about the competencies that teach first look for and it was made clear to us we need to focus on them during applications.

We understood from previous participants exactly what the timeline of events would look like if we decided to go ahead and do the LDP once graduated and it was nice to hear from people who have come directly from something i am very interested in applying for.

Very much so. We learnt all about the ethos and message of the company

It helped me decide that if i decide to go down the teaching path, there will be only one option and that will be to go with teach first.

I was reimbursed for my travel and even tube tickets on the days - very greatful.

We spoke to other affiliates that were linked with teach first such as action tutoring, NCS.

Due to the two day event this wasnt something that could be fully utilised but there were opportunities to speak to other charity organisations.

Not really. But this wqs realistically due to the set progreamme and that it would be something we would no doubt find out if it was longer.
