    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time with GT. From the off, I was given a great deal of responsibility, which alongside the guidance I received from my colleagues, ensured I got the most out of my 6 weeks with the firm. I learnt a lot considering the short time I was with GT.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The work that you are given during your time contributes massively to the work GT are responsible for when undertaking an audit. Thus, the work you did is very valued by your colleagues and management. The support network is great and I felt very welcome within the firm and office.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The management are often very busy due to their workload and therefore I didn't spend much time with my people manager. Any time I did spend with them I felt very comfortable and received a lot of insight and guidance from them. The supervisors and in-charges on sight were always there to help.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • When on-site, I was constantly busy and had a lot of work to complete. For most of my 6 weeks I was away on client site, however on a couple of days I was based in the office and so rarely I did have very little to get on with.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot of responsibility was given to me. The team you work in are reliant on you getting your work done and to a good standard. The whole time they are there to support you and assist. Entire sections of the audit may be given to you, and while this may be initially daunting, it is the best way to get the most out of the intern/placement.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed may not be particularly valuable when I return back to uni, however they will be invaluable in my working life. Having spent so much time on-site with clients has massively benefitted my professional skills - which will be extremely useful in my working life when I return to GT.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Most GT offices 'hot desk' whereby very few people has specific designated seats in an attempt to make everyone socialise within the office. It is a bit daunting first walking in and finding a seat on the first day, but generally everyone was friendly and welcoming. It may have been nice to be designated a seat initially e.g. next to people manager or buddy.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I felt the internship was overall well organised. For the majority of my time I was out on site and learning loads. The odd day I was in the office but generally it was organised so that I was kept busy at all times which helped me make the most of my time.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested a lot into the interns and placement students. We were only there for 6 weeks but were sent on training programmes to London and High Wycombe which were great fun and insightful. Therefore this suggested to all of us interns that we were highly invested in and felt valuable to the firm.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. I will be returning to GT next year after I finish my course at uni to carry on audit work for the firm. Thus, the future employment prospects with in the organisation are very appealing and once an intern/placement student, they are invested within you and are keen for you to return.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • A lot of the office were young individuals of a similar age and this meant the social scene was very good. There was always people going out for drinks after work on a Friday and I made many good friends who I will stay in contact with during my final year of uni.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living and socialising was very cheap. I wanted to stay up North rather than return back home to London for this reason. However, the salary you receive reflects the cost of living for the city you live in and so the living costs are not particularly important/.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was amazing. I stayed in the same city I go to uni in and the people that I worked with were always keen to go out for drinks after work. Thus, the nightlife was enjoyable and not expensive at all. Loads of places nearby had happy hour specials on after work.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was only there for 6 weeks and there were a few opportunities to get involved in opportunities such as a cricket game at a nearby stadium and a football tournament that many people in the office attended. There were also a couple of drinks and pizzas hosted in the office.
