    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed it. I was able to learn a lot about construction and the tasks required for the project. The team was very welcoming and happy to help with anything that I had questions about.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I wasn't expecting to fit in to the team as well as I did, everyone was very welcoming and treated me as a member of the team despite being a student on a summer placement. I felt tat my work was valued by colleagues and subcontractors as well.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • They were more than happy to answer questions and involve me in their day-to-day tasks which allowed me to learn quickly and without feeling like I was a burden.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Depending on the time of the week and the stage of the project I could be very busy, on other days there was less to do so I asked my supervisor for extra tasks to complete.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was able to take the lead on the health safety and environmental side of the project which meant that I had a lot of interaction with the subcontractors.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The placement was very different to my university studies but I knew that this would be the case when I applied.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Quite quiet, but I also spent a lot of time on site.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I had tasks to do as soon as I arrived which meant that I felt like a welcome addition to the team.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had access to the online training portal which meant I could choose any courses I was interested in. I also received an NVQ level 3 whilst I was there.

  • I have been recommended for a place on the Graduate employment programme which I am definitely considering.

  • I was the only summer placement student working at Heathrow

  • I commuted from my home.

  • There was no night life that I was aware of

  • I took part in a volunteering day and there was opportunity for activities like a rugby tournament.
