    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement because I was able to develop a full understanding of banking regulatory and framework. especially in finance which was the department I worked and it also gave me a insight into what working for a big company is like. I was able to shadow many areas so it wasn't just limited.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was placed in a small team consisting of about 12 people and was made to feel at home straight away with already having one of the team member to look after me and show me around and introduce me to everyone. I was also invited to socials with the team where I was able to bond and develop my relationship with the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a line manager who I would check in with weekly and spoke to daily casually, I was also supported with a kind of buddy who was more similar age to me and was always offering support often undertaking projects together at the start whilst my knowledge was little.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As an intern for only 10 weeks, it was kind of hard to be kept busy at all the times because you cant undertake long term projects however I was given daily tasks and when there was stuff where I didn't have to do anything there was learning modules and development classes I am allowed to undertake.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • during my placement I was given several responsibilities and this showed my role and respect within the team as I was given a great deal of tasks which the rest of my team expected me to complete so It just shows how much I was also valued by my team members.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe the skills I have learnt during my placement have been invaluable and will be crucial to me later in my working life and also will deeply assist the degree that I am studying as it is also part of my career choice so the training I have received such as the professional bank course has been amazing

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office I was placed in was not front office or client facing so it was less corporate and more relaxed, this helped in the sense of productivity and didn't require standard office wear, everyone was also super friendly and was always willing to share time with you and have a chat.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • During the internship you are provided with a balance score card and are given a rating at the end of the 10 weeks, these will help with your grad offer when it comes to the end of the 10 weeks, you also subject to a mid internship review and a end of placement review and then you have a final interview for the grad offer and it takes all these into consideration.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All interns lived together in accommodation unless they already had accommodation in the city if they lived or studied there, however it was very social being able to meet lots of other students and go out together etc, work also has lots of socials to get up to with.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Due to be south in Bristol some stuff was expensive compared to up north, however all accommodation was paid for with maid service so you was able to pack lighter aswell and also travel was paid for. so it was just groceries and then travel to and from work which a bus pass you had to pay for. However with the wage you earned socialising was easy.
