    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyable, brainstorming and implementing ideas on how to improve and innovate the apps, always lots to do whether it was requesting or analysing data, meeting with design teams, reading and categorising customer feedback. Was able to use degree knowledge in a variety of ways and then extend it. Work was during some major sporting events so was all the more exciting.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Was constantly given feedback or thanks, they were always supportive, and would explain how what we were doing would impact the business after we left. They were always inviting us to things both in and out side of the office. Very lovely bunch, I felt very valued.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Lots of guidance: directing me to the relevant people around the business to further my projects; giving solid feedback, constructive critisism and praise; getting me access to the necessary data and platforms to inform decisions; helping me understand the structure of what is a complex and connected business and department.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Hugely busy, had multiple projects to juggle, meetings to attend, tasks to complete etc. When I wasn't busy I could always find something to do or be given something to do, any free hours I had I would be invited to senior meetings etc. In such a fast paced industry its impossible for you not to be busy day to day.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Was able to make and implement product changes, these were always OKed by a variety of managers, but that would be the case even if I wasn't an intern. Was able to set up weekly reports which were sent out to senior members weekly, and write a program to sort verbatim with lots of freedom.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The internship was largely unrelated to my degree, so will not be used there. However, in future employment the skills will be invaluable. Coordinating projects in a large business, time management, public speaking, submitting design / data / tech briefs etc. However, the technical skills I gained were more limited.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very fun, busy. I was working in the office during the world cup, the start of the premier league, the challenge cup final and Wimbledon, there were dozens of screens all showing sports channels, it was an exciting atmosphere. Employees very chatty, but then get their heads down. Social atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very structured. Throughout the entire placement what was expected and where we needed to be was crystal clear. Use of google Calander meant you never missed a meeting or appointment. Had a clear list of things that must be achieved, but additional extras were brought to our attention to.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested significant amounts. We had public speaking training with two experts.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Appealing.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. Everyone got on well, there were quite a few socials on the night. Watching the world cup, go karting, drinks, a summer party, lots and lots of fun. Everyone was very friendly. A whatsapp group was set up which made it easy to organise stuff and stay in the loop.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is expensive, lets not lie, but we found ways around it. Tesco reduced meal deals were a life saver. I was luck enough to be able to stay with a family friend with reduced rent, but short term accommodation in London is pricey. Travelled to Hackney wick, which on the over ground was £1.50 each way, so travel costs so low.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I was working in London so the nightlife was fab ( being London ) , but expensive. Didn't really go clubbing in Hackney Wick / Stratford itself. But hackney Wick has many nice bars by the Canal, and Stratford is very busy with nice bars/pubs. Rating this 10 / 10.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes lots. Open adult gymnastics in the area , the company has a five a side football team. There are lots of sporting facilities near by. Because of the flexible working hours you can mould your working day around any activities that you have planned or wish to do .

    3/5
