    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The GVC Summer Internship Scheme was extremely well organised and I felt I was exposed to a great deal of the business. All the people I came across within the business were very helpful and I feel I developed a significant number of new skills. Overall, the company culture was great.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team I spent the majority of my internship were both welcoming and helpful from day 1. The whole team were patient in teaching me the technical side of the job. I felt like a fully integrated member of the team within a couple of weeks, this was helped by the great social atmosphere.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All interns were given clear support from the very first day. The HR supports organised some great meetings with senior people in the business (even the CEO) and also organised loads of socials (e.g. Go Karting). They also set each intern up with a Buddy and a Mentor, who both provided guidance throughout the programme.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Personally, I had a really good balance of work during the whole programme. The programme was split between your "normal" day-to-day tasks with your team and an intern project. Each project group of interns were briefed with real business problems that we would work on throughout and then pitch our ideas to a panel of Senior Leaders at the end of the internship.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Essentially, my team gave me almost full freedom on the tasks they asked me to carry out.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The intern project presentation was a great way to develop some project management skills and a whole host of soft skills. My direct role allowed me to develop my programming skills, during the placement I got exposure to two new computer languages.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The company culture was positive and everyone was very nice. There is a clear passion for sports and betting throughout the whole office. In the Trading department, there is a constant stream of live sports playing all day.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Extremely well organised and thought out. The application process was clear and as accommodating as possible. Socials, lunch and learns, meeting senior people, quizzes etc

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Considering interns are only temporary, there was a huge investment in terms of both training and development. All the interns were given personal impact training, pitching skills training and tailored e-learning content.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The intern programme feeds directly in to the graduate programme (depending on performance).

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I attended plenty of socials with both the fellow interns and people in my team. This included: a company summer party, Go-Karting, Crystal Maze experience and plenty of "work drinks".

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was based in London, so the cost of living is of course quite high but, the social life is great.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Again, the internship was in London, so there is basically something for everyone.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Plenty of drinks, parties and some other social activities.

    4/5
