    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The GVC Summer Internship scheme was the first time the company offered the programme, however despite this they managed to deliver a high quality programme with a range of internship events such as Lunch and Learn sessions, meet senior leaders and socials during the programme. This was a great way to learn about the business and was an enjoyable experience throughout my 8 weeks.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The internship had us as fully integrated team members in different departments across the business. My colleagues were very helpful and looked after me like a normal employee, always able to help with any questions I might have or concerns. Despite it being a quiet atmosphere being in tech it was still a great environment to work in.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • As a part of the internship programme we were given a Mentor, Buddy, Line Manager and HR Contact. This meant that there was plenty of support available for different areas. My manager was always on hand to give me directions on my task, my buddy was available to help with the work and my mentor was there to support me. I feel that these contacts were a great addition.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On a daily basis I had a good balance of work but towards the end of the internship the business ramped up due to having to finish of the work I'd been assigned, finishing off the intern project with preparing for a Dragons Den style presentation and other internship events. This lead to a rather busy workload but generally it was a good balance of work for a day.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • For my internship work I was given a large amount of responsibility to design and develop a program as I was the sole developer for the project. This gave me a fair amount of responsibility and I had to mange my time well across working 80% on my team and 20% on my internship project.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The thinks I learnt during my internship were pieces of technologies that I had no idea about from my Degree. This was great so I developed a lot of new skills and technologies that I can use as part of my last year of university. Training in these skills was provided with links to relevant tutorials and examples to follow.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The new LC2 office is a great new modern environment with a sports theme throughout however a large amount of employees tend to work remotely or work with headphones on and thats it so it was a rather quiet atmosphere however the staff were still friendly, approachable and easy going.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship programme was well organised with dedicated HR managers who looked after the intern cohort. There were large amounts of events organised for the interns which were well organised and planned in advance. Additional meetings were set up to meet with the CEO of GVC for the interns to learn more about the company.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a large amount in personal development to train us for our Dragons Den presentation, this included a coaching day with Deborah Francis White, and pitching skills from Tim Benton. These were all well organised and got us to improve our skills greatly. Additionally, they provided tailored e learning content for the interns.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Success on the internship programme could lead to a Graduate Programme for 2 years followed by a job offer at the end of them two years. This provides a nice amount of progression for newly graduated students. The grad scheme also comes as 4 six months rotations across the industry.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The intern scheme offered socials prior to joining, start, middle and end. Additionally we met every week to do a lunch and learn session about different areas of the business. These events provided a decent amount of social interaction amongst the interns and meeting with other colleagues in the business during these events.
