    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I felt integrated into the team from the word go, and was not treated like an addition to the already established team. I was given projects to own and was given just the right amount of responsibility. The people in my team are so welcoming and have only ever wanted to help. I could not have asked for a better Line Manager and Team to work with.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I always felt one hundred per cent included and valued by my colleagues. My team would know when I was working on a project and would come to me for status updates and inquiries on it. When I had capacity, the team were eager to get me involved in what they were doing but ensured all the work was productive and not just admin style roles.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I felt completely supported both with work and personally throughout my internship by my Line Manager in particular. Everyone I worked with always wanted to ensure I was happy and understood what I was doing and why the task was relevant. I never felt I was in an environment when I couldn't ask questions, my Line Manager and all members of my team were extremely supportive.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was always given enough work to get on with to ensure I was getting a day to day schedule representative of the job as a whole. If I found myself without a specific time sensitive job to do, I always had more long term, less strenuous projects on going in the background to pick up and work on.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given enough responsibility to ensure I got to experience the pressures and time scales that the Investment Management team experience on a daily basis. I owned a set of deliverables and updated these throughout my time which would not have been possible without my line manager taking me seriously an trusting me to get the job done.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed skills for life and would not have wanted to receive such experience anywhere else. I have gained valuable industry experience that cannot be simply taught, it was through the management I received from my line manager who ensured I gained a varied view of Investment Management and who ensured I understood why I was doing each task and why this is relevant to myself.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was obviously very hard working and dedicated but this didn't stop them from being friendly and approachable on the whole. I was very lucky in the fact that my team are so friendly and I was always able to be myself around them and joke with them. The occasional more serious tone could be due to being in the same office as the CEO.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I have been extremely lucky in that my line manager and other members of my team ensured that my internship has run smoothly and I have got the most out of it as possible. However it must be noted that this is very line manager and area specific, I have been very lucky but I am aware of other scholars/interns who have struggled with organisation and overall enjoyment

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were sent weekly emails with opportunities to participate in personal development and training each with a theme along with videos and extra worksheets or examples should we wish to pursue this further. We were also able to shadow any area of the bank we so wished as long as we instigated the set up.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Extremely, I am hoping to get an interview for the graduate scheme or even, when the time comes, apply for a full time job within Lloyds. The only reason I have not rated 10 here is because there is no graduate scheme available within the stream I have interned in.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Some social scheme between other interns and the Intern and Graduate Boat Party was a successful evening to bond and get to know each other but this was rare. Unless you instigated social meetings yourself it was extremely unlikely to happen. A shame because I am a Lloyds scholar and I know the general consensus among all scholars is for there to be a bigger social scene.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very good opportunities to socialise just VERY expensive to do so

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London - so very good night life just very expensive and difficult to get around after a certain time. A lot of opportunity just very difficult to enjoy given wage and commuting costs you experience in London

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We had the charity challenge as part of our internship and this encouraged us to participate in and organise events outside of work to raise money for Mental Health UK as well as raising awareness of mental health and the Lloyds Banking Group - Mental Health UK Partnership - other than this not many other opportunities.
