The Role
I really enjoyed my internship, particularly due to being a part of such a welcoming and fun team. I was given projects that were interesting and had quite varied days which made the experience more enjoyable. I also enjoyed spending time with the other interns and going to social events outside of work.
I did feel a valued member of my team, due to being given multiple projects to work on, one of which had a real tangible impact on the company. I was given the opportunity to present my work to my colleagues who were engaged and gave positive feedback which also helped me to feel valued.
My manager was really supportive of me throughout my internship, always on hand to give guidance and answer questions I had. She made sure I always had work to do, whilst at the same time ensuring I didn't feel out of my depth. Other members of my team were also happy to give me help whenever I needed it and I collaborated with them when it reached the final stages of my project.
I was reasonably busy on a daily basis, and there were very few occasions when I didn't have work to do, particularly when I was further through my internship. However, I also always had enough time so that I could also put in my own meetings to find out about other departments and to take part in the charity challenge with other interns.
I feel like I was given a good amount of responsibility during my placement. I was given my own project to lead on but also had my manager's help throughout so that I wasn't out of my depth. I was given opportunities to present my work independently which, although scary at first, helped me to develop my presentation skills.
I believe the skills I have developed on the internship will really help me in the future. I am now much more confident in my ability to present work. I also learnt how to code and better work with data in my internship which will really help me in the future and will be a skill I will now always have.
The Company
The general atmosphere in my office with my team was very relaxed and friendly. I was expecting it to feel quite corporate but was pleasantly surprised by how nice the atmosphere was. I particularly liked how there was table tennis and football tables to encourage people to relax during breaks and the dress code was very casual.
I think the internship was quite well organised as we had two introduction days at the beginning and optional masterclasses throughout. However, I think there could have been additional days where the interns get together to catch up and share their experience and this could have incorporated the charity challenge to encourage everyone to take part.
The company put on masterclasses to help us develop skills such as excel, however I think these could have been nearer the start of the internship. I also developed my sql skills during the internship although this was self taught, but my team was on hand to provide support whenever I needed it.

Working from home
I would be keen to work for Tesco and this is particularly due to the atmosphere of the company and the support of the team that I was working with. I also like the way that because there are so many departments and jobs, there is a lot of opportunity for development and to try out different areas of the business.
The Culture
I think there was a good social scene amongst my team as we went on a couple of team nights out and to the cricket. However, I didn't feel like I got to spend enough time with the interns to really get to know them and so didn't do many social activities with them, which I would have liked to do.
Reasonably expensive due to the proximity to London but not quite as expensive as London. However, for many of the social activities we went into London and so this was very expensive. I was lucky enough to stay with a friend but if not the rent would have been quite high.
The nightlife in Welwyn Garden City is quite poor. However, because it is so close to London that is where we tended to socialise and so this was much better, although very expensive.
With my team we went on a team outing to the cricket and also on a couple of nights out due to people leaving the team. However, there were not many activities to get involved with outside of work with other interns, only one drinks event nearer the beginning of the internship.
