    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was really looking forward to this internship, but in the end it was just OKAY. It didn't go ideally and the work was fairly dull most of the time. However we we're doing actual useful work, not just making teas. I learned a lot about the bank and banking in general.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • 3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied. some weeks I was quite busy and that was good. some weeks I had nothing to do at all, that was very very boring and depressing. I think on the whole the interns have the right amount of work, with some exceptions depending on department. When we had work it was usually fairly interesting.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • 3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Learned a lot about banking, and a lot about my particular area of focus, and about how big businesses and wealth customers function. Gained practical skills on Excel and IBIS and other computer platforms used by the bank. But didn't learn to much about anything that actually related to my degree

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Fika Fika Fika. The bank has really taken on the sweedish atmosphere, people and friendly and the offices are nice and attractive. theres free tea and coffee and often snacks. there's a good atmosphere, people smile and have a laugh , and no one is watching your back when you go for a break.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The Internship was well organised by HR and they took good care of us, we saw them quite a bit and they we're helpful, The application process was likewise well organised and friendly. However when we were put into teams, not all of the interns had well organised teams with enough work to do.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was lots of mandatory training stuff to do at the start, it took about 3 days to complete, some of it was interesting most was dull. it was really about covering legal and regulatory things anyway. But we were introduced to new systems and processes, which was useful. And they let use see other teams that we were interested in.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Well the bank is expanding so there should be jobs on offer in future, but these are likely to be for experienced professionals, most grad prospects are for fairly low paid roles in branch. New starters seem to start on a low salary, but there are good benefits and the hours are only 9-5 with a hole hour for lunch, so that's will be attractive to many.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns all did a project together, we had a fun group which made it easy and enjoyable. we also saw a lot of the other interns round the office, and we went out for drinks together a few times and went for lunch together most days. it was really good to have other people going through the same thing with you

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The costs of living are very high, manchester is a major city and rent (esp short term rent) is very high. Transport is great in the city (trams buses, trains, uber) but it is expensive. Although It's not as bad as London. The office is at the airport so enjoy paying for a train ticket out there every day.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Manchester is a buzzing city, I didn't go out much, but its a great place to stay, full of bars theatres, and this war; Wimbledon and the world cup was everywhere. it's not too expensive. but the office is actually based at the airport so enjoy traveling out there every day.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
