    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the internship. This was my first internship, and I was able to learn a lot of new skills that can be transferred into work in the future. I also learnt a lot about the working environment in an office, as well as the about the bank itself.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was valued by my fellow colleagues, as I would be invited to attend work-night outs with them to make us feel more of a team. There is always a morning huddle at 9:30am to get everyone in the mood for work. They delegated tasks to me, which shows that they value my potential.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • In my opinion, I was able to receive support anytime I needed from my colleagues and manager. I was able to ask for technical help from colleagues regarding different systems I am using, and calling IT helpdesks. I was able to ask for guidance and support about the charity challenge by emailing my mentor, and asking other interns.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I believe that there was always something to do. I started off the internship being delegated a few tasks, and once you get used to the processes it took a lot less time to complete them. I was then more focused on the Charity challenge and raising money for the cause. Then after the challenge I was given more tasks to understand about the different processes.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had to do multiple processes, in which I was in charge of what I am feeding back with the data that was exported from the data base. These processes ensured that I had to be able to complete my processes on time and to the correct standards. I was given the challenge to learn multiple processes quickly, and I had other colleagues shadow me to learn the process

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think I have learnt to manage my time more efficiently because I have to be able to produce my reports on time to be used by the relevant team at a specific time of the day. I received cross-training from mulitple colleagues which gave an insight to what their job role consists of and what I may find interesting to do in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • In my opinion, the atmosphere here is great, it is never completely silent so you would never feel awkward to ask for help or have a casual conversation. The colleagues were all happy and willing to help if you need help from them.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • In terms of my placement, I came and my manager delegated a few tasks from the other team to me. However, I was unclear on what I will be doing, and what not given a schedule. On the contrary, I really liked how I was able to incorporate work and the charity challenge together.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In my opinion, the helping Britain prosper challenge has helped connect with a wider group of people internally and externally from the firm. I have met so many new friends to build my network on. I have learnt and developed valuable transferable skills, e.g. time management, good communication, and excel skills etc.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • This was my first internship, and I am hoping to do my second internship with Lloyds, and there is also a graduate scheme in which I would like to take part in after my second internship. The company has many opportunities and width to the company for development.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Despite not being able to live with the interns, I was still able to make really good friends and build my network. There were many networking events that I took part in which helped me build strong relationships with the other interns and colleagues which ensured that if I had any queries then I would be able to reach out to them.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I had my own flat here in Edinburgh, and rent was around £100/week. In terms of socialising, I am local and know where is probably the most student friendly places so cost was not an issue. Especially if I am working and not constantly focused on spending money.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I think the night life here was awesome, I was able to gout most weekends and network with the interns since they are all from outwith Edinburgh. This gave me an opportunity to network with people outside the workplace and develop strong relationships with.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were lots of opportunities that Lloyds put on for example BBQ fun days where you can bring friends and family to the event as well. With the helping Britain prosper challenge we held multiple events fro colleagues across the offices to take part in.
