    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects across various teams. This has enabled me to get a good exposure on the different services that the bank offers. Moreover, as my colleagues were all very helpful I have managed to get a very good understanding of how Lloyds works. Overall, I have enjoyed my time here.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • 5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given continuous support and guidance from my line manager and I am really thankful about this, as it has allowed me to develop a great variety of skills and get a hands-on approach on the work being done in the team I am working with. The guidance I was given allowed me to always complete my work at the best of my abilities.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This 10 week summer internship was a perfect balance. There was a variety of interesting and challenging projects and tasks to work on during the day. However, the workload was such as to not keep any intern working until the very late evening hours unlike the workload in other firms in the industry.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During this 10 week internship I was given responsibility on the majority of projects I was working on. This was a surprise as in many cases interns are continuously being supervised without being given any responsibility at all. I was very glad to be given responsibility as well as guidance from my manager. I have found this to have assisted my learning to a great extent.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Being an Economics student with an aim of working for the banking industry, I can say that this internship has assisted my learning. It has mainly broaden my knowledge in a variety of products offered by the industry and not just the conventional investment products. However, it would be good if interns were given a chance to learn about all products including those offered by Capital and Financial Markets

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I very friendly atmosphere. Everyone was being extremely kind, helpful and willing to answer questions and share their experience. This has played a vital role in my performance as I was able to ask my colleagues about feedback or help when there was need. I believe this to have helped me broaden my knowledge to a great extent.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I liked the fact that the work that interns were given had been well thought and organised. However, I think that there should have been some sort of HR involvement in the internship programme. I believe there should have been more networking opportunities and talks from senior people across the bank.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was some basic training provided, however, I strongly believe that there is need for more and better work-related training to give interns the right skills required to meet the expectations and needs of the tasks given by their teams. There were also very few opportunities for soft skills training. I strongly recommend this as an area of improvement.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I highly value the easy mobility and progress opportunities at Lloyds which makes it appealing for future employment. Culture and people are great and there is a good work life balance. However, I think that the salaries given are quite below those of other banks in the industry which makes the decision harder.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The internship is taking place in central London therefore, the costs are quite high. It is quite expensive to go out in London and the bank could have provided more networking opportunities internally. when it comes to the cost of living, Lloyds bank has provided many interns and scholars with accommodation which I believe to be great. However, the bank should consider offering accommodation even to those interns and scholars that already live in London as commuting tends to consume a considerable amount of time.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 4/5
