    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This was a really great internship to get me started in the world of audit. I got to work on site for a number of different clients in different sectors and experience many different stages of the audit. I also went to London for a conference and Bradenham Manor for a workshop.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very. Everyone was very welcoming and helpful and my point of view was always listened to and taken on board. GT's view of shared enterprise was very apparent.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had regular meetings with my people manager who I set goals with and reflected on these to see how well I was achieving them, and what more I could be doing in order to get the most out of my time. In addition to this everyone that I worked with helped me with tasks when needed.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied week by week. Some weeks I had lots of task to do and others I was asking people in the office if they had any work I could be helping with.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt I was given a fair amount of responsibility during my internship. I was given tasks and some guidance to start them but then often trusted to complete them by myself, asking for help if I needed it. I was given the task of talking to clients to get information needed by myself.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I got some great professional experience, especially with networking as this was not something I had done much of before.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone in the office was very friendly and welcoming. As there were hot desks I was sat with different people on a daily basis so this meant I got to know a lot of different people during my 6 weeks. People often went for lunch together which was good for getting to know people.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • In the first week we were with all the intern and placement students from across Yorkshire where we had an induction day and then travelled to London for a conference. Throughout my internship I was assigned to different jobs, which were either on site or based back in the office.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was a strong focus on personal training and development throughout the internship. The best example of this is that we went to GT's training centre, Bradenham Manor, where we had a two day workshop called 'Developing your Business Impact' where we worked on presentation skills and got to network with other interns from around the country.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was offered a job for when I graduate with the firm and after a meeting with a different office I was able to transfer this job to a different office. This job will be a training contract to work towards the ACA qualification whilst also working full time in audit.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We got to know lots of the other interns and placement students from all over the country at the national conference in London and then again at Bradenham. Socials were encouraged between interns and there was also chances to socialise with others within the firm as every intern was assigned a 'buddy' who has worked at the firm for a few years.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home with my parents so this doesn't apply to me too much. However, I know that Grant Thornton have offices in most major cities and some other places around the UK so there will be an office that is in an area that is an accessible cost of living for everyone.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Sheffield is a big city so there is lots to choose from, a mixture of bars and clubs that have different types of music. It is also close to the even bigger cities of Leeds and Manchester which attract even bigger names so it is possible to travel if that is whats desired.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I didn't partake in any but I know there is weekly football as well as some other sporting activities.
