    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall, the internship has been a positive learning experience where I was able to build on current knowledge and skills as well as develop new ones.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • It was a real pleasure to work with all the members of the Origination team. I believe everyone in the team took me seriously and valued my opinions and input. I felt welcomed and part of the team after a few weeks in.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was always available to help me and give me guidance.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was able to participate to different ongoing projects but also I was given the opportunity to take initiative and ownership of my own project, which was valued at the end of my internship.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The work was challenging and at the same time allowed me to constantly grow both professionally and personally. The internship experience has be beneficial for me to understand what capabilities I have and how best to use them in my future career.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a very welcoming, friendly and helpful working environment. EDFT follows an open plan office space which allows greater interaction between different teams/departments. It is quite a dynamic place to work in.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was organised with events every week allowing interns to get insight on every department in EDFT. However, there could have been a better structure when it comes to tasks, activities and responsibilities within your own individual team.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested in trainings including: introduction to commodities, soft skills/presentation training, and weekly presentation on different functions within EDFT. These however lacked interaction or practical examples. There was space to add more trainings that focused on actual energy trading to understand how the commercial side of the business works.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was two social outings that involved pizza making and dinner, as well as the JP Morgan Run Challenge. Otherwise, it all depended how social you were with other interns and colleagues.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living and socialising in London can be expensive despite EDFT supporting with a paid internship.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I did not experience the nightlife around the area of where the offices were located.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was the opportunity to join the JP Morgan run at Battersea park. This was a fun social even that allowed interns to get to know other EDFT employees in a more informal situation.

    3/5
