    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the internship. I think my team were well aware of how to place me within the division and knew where my strengths lie within the work. Well supported by Underwriting team.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was involved in every event, call, meeting within the team and wider Insurance group. The work that I did allowed me to implement changes within the products we offer and I felt like I've left my mark within the business.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had multiple avenues of contact. I was always able to confide in any of the team for help, information etc. I was never turned away and no question was too easy or hard for them to answer

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very busy, not to a point that I felt it was too much. They gave me tasks with realistic timeframes and support as and when it was needed. Luckily, they were able to give me even more tasks when I was able to complete them before the deadlines

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I managed a lot of work within the team (of which I was capable of). They understood my strengths within Insurance and tasked me with work they knew I can do, and let me use my own judgement while keeping in line with LBG key values

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am not sure exactly. As I am a student actuary, I was placed within Underwriting, which technically doesn't suit my degree course. Luckily they gave me the time to go and collaborate with actuarial teams within the division although the work I have completed here was non-actuarial

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great. Insurance is a great place to be in within Lovell Park (one of the best in my opinion).

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Decently organised. I thought the speed of getting the Graduate information out wasn't ideal, this was also echoed by my line manager who is ofcourse in charge of passing on the referral

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They gave me the tools I needed, and outlined the work I would look to be doing post-education, even though the work I actually did was non-actuarial

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Not very. From an actuarial perspective, there are extremely limited avenues (the graduate scheme doesn't cater, neither does the internship). The only avenue for me to take would be to actually apply for permanent roles as and when they are available on Job shop etc

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Definitely, mostly among colleagues. As I lived from home, I was more in contact with those in my team rather than the other interns which saw eachother on a daily basis

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Interesting. As I wasn't offered accommodation for the placement (where other interns were), I was hoping my rail tickets would be covered under the same budget. Turns out they were not and so I actually had to pay more than any other intern to actually work here which was slightly off-putting. therefore, I didn't go out much as I had spent over £300 just travelling to work

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I live here, So I know the nightlife here is great (and I would be biased anyway!) but yes, leeds offers so much in terms of taste and choice, you enjoy whatever you like

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yeah, depends on what you like. Within the team, there were many activities we all got involved in which was great fun

    3/5
