    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was enjoyable to learn about the company and get to know about what other schemes they have but it was clear from their information that oxbridge candidates are hugely favoured and make up over 60% of their grad schemes. I did however learn about teamwork and groupwork and how to work under pressure

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I did not feel that valued as there were 100 of us and it was clear that the company knew how popular it was that it felt like it did not need to convince us as to why Mckinsey is a good company to work for. This could be improved

    3/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The support they offered was mostly through feeding us information about what Mckinsey do and how we can become a part of their team. They told us more about their summer internships and their graduation schemes for those finishing university. We were also told about the skills we need to have to become attractive candidates for employees

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The information and skills learn will be very useful as I will use what i learnt to apply to different undergrad summer schemes. We learnt about how to make our CV's professional and to only include up to date information which will help me pass the CV screening test for some companies

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was a 2 day stay in Berkshire at the Leadership academy and a follow on day at the McKinsey and Company headquarters in London Piccadilly Circus 1 year later. I believe that they did structure this well as it was easy to remember who we had worked with from the previous year.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was very calm, fun and enjoyable but there were a lot of obnoxious, big headed, self centred people who enjoyed boasting about themselves and belittling others which put a downer on the atmosphere. This is beyond McKinsey's control though, although they could have accepted a more diverse group of people.

    2/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested in me by providing me with opportunities to become one of the Academy leaders after I had personally completed the Leadership Academy myself. Similarly, they taught me about what to include in a CV and what to take out so they were very helpful. They also occasionally email us about further opportunities with the Company that we could apply for

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The 2 day Leadership academy did not really provide me with an insight as to what it would be like to actually work for this firm as the days revolved around fun and games and speeches from people. It would have helped to actually see the company and its employees and get an insight as to what work they actually do

    1/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight did help a great deal in finding out about the culture of the company as we learnt that their main focus was on their customers and businesses that they consult with. They emphasise the need to keep clients happy and provide them with high quality information if they do come to Mckinsey for help

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content learnt was helpful to an extent. I learnt briefly abut what the company does but not enough to make a full decision as to whether I want to get into consulting or stay away. More time doing actual consultancy work would help more to reach a decision like that

    3/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was driven by my parents to Berkshire and was not reimbursed but that was not a problem as the experience was very work it and I would do it again. I also did not mind not being paid as I was the one benefiting from the information Mckinsey were teaching

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • The leaders who led each group were actul employees who had worked or currently do work at McKinsey. We were given an opportunity to have a Q & A session with them allowing us to ask any questions we had about the company. The conversions were very useful and one of the leaders even told me to email her and send my CV so that she could check it

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • These were very very good. We got to network with the leaders of our teams who work at the company. We were given an opportunity to have a Q & A session with them allowing us to ask any questions we had about the company. The conversions were very useful and one of the leaders even told me to email her and send my CV so that she could check it

    3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • McKinsey took us to dinner so we got to talk to the employees who told us about how they socialise together outside of work and also get involved with charity events or sporting events. This was good to learn about as it showed us that McKinsey do not just focus on work

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would 100% recommend the McKinsey Leadership Academy to others as it is an invaluable experience at a top company who will provide you with further opportunities that could help you get a job later on after graduating. You can also include this on your CV which will look good if you can prove that you learnt something from it
