    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was an extremely good learning experience, I was given a good level of responsibility and was allowed to make mistakes. My work involved supporting the CFO in his activities. This made the work extremely rewarding and also very enjoyable. I also had the opportunity to converse with high level members of the bank providing me with much needed guidance.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team was the highlight of my internship. It was an extremely welcoming group of individuals. We were always having a laugh and talking about the holidays. People were very keen on sharing food and listening to each other's stories. There also alot of support in work, questions could be asked as many times as you wanted.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Barclay's had set up various talks with upper management. This showed how much they are willing to invest in their people. It proved to me how much Barclay's values it's employees but the best part was that the senior management shared this ambition and were very keen on providing their guidance.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It was an interesting experience, I enjoyed a tough and a relaxed period. This was due to the cyclicality of the work in the team I was in. There was always something to do whether it was helping the team or reading up on learning and development. There also alot to learn about during your free time provided by the company.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a very respectable level of responsibility, the nature of the work did not allow me to have total control over certain items but that was the same for most of the team. However, I was given responsibility of reviewing alot of the final outputs, this gave me the opportunity to play an integral part in the day to day work of the team.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The companies values Moto's and beliefs are ingrained within me. These have helped me become a more professional, organised and disciplined individual in life. The work has also shown me that how in reality a dynamic way of thinking and planning is important because uncertainty is inevitable in most things you do.

    The Company

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company is a great place to work for. I am sold on the graduate program. The rotations are very insightful. The qualifications program is a definite boost the salary was very competitive and so is the prospect of promotion. The firm focuses alot on training as well and provides reasonable perks.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns were a great bunch. There was always plenty of fun to have. People were always hanging out. We would see them very regularly even almost on. Daily basis and it felt like a community of sorts. The parties and events were also alot of fun and something to look forward to.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London in general is a bit expensive and so is canary wharf. It is not easy to afford high class stuff all the time, however we were given respectable incomes and specific London pay in order to help us adjust to the expensive life and enjoy a bit of both work and play.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Canary wharf is quite a surprising place, it is all work all day but on the weekends it is quite the place to be. Bars and restaurants are all over the place,in every nook and cranny. During the weekends it is a very livley place to be in and it is alot of fun.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • You can volunteer, barclays has a relationship with various different charities and educational programs for us to join. My favorite was helping teach GCSE kids maths, this is something I'm definitely going to join when I come back after my studies. You get to visit branches, cycle for charity, go on runs .
