    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Enjoyable - plenty of scope to attend interesting talks and events, even if they weren't directly related to my work.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues were interesting in my work, gave useful comments, and scheduled meetings with me so that I could show them what I'd done in more detail.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager gave me strong development advice each week, however in terms of my work I had a lot of freedom regarding what I was doing. This flexibility suited me but might not suit everyone.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Quiet at the beginning of the internship, but after a couple of weeks I had more than enough valuable work to keep me occupied. At the same time I never felt pressure to work longer hours than I wanted to.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • After the initial period I gained significant responsibility and was responsible for designing and developing major tools.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt good coding, statistics and general office skills, however I would have liked more opportunities to develop my economics skills too.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Wasn't like a library, with plenty of discussions going on. Not too loud to concentrate though.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised once I arrived. The application and security process was however too late and my internship was only confirmed a couple of weeks before I started.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Significantly - I was always encouraged to attend training and development events, even when they weren't directly relevant to my current work. Colleagues from across the bank were also always happy to chat about their careers with me over a coffee.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Provided you do well in the internship you are likely to receive a job offer for afterwards.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes - the interns had lunch together almost everyday and we organised social events for after work.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Central London... so very expensive.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Plenty of bars - didn't experience any clubs. Expensive though.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • No.
