    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my placement and have enjoyed it far more than any job I have ever done. The work is exciting and there is a great social culture in my department. I haven't felt like getting up in the morning to go to work is a chore which is a really nice feeling.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was so warmly welcomed by my team who all made a real effort. Within a few weeks I felt like any other analyst in the team and was treated as such. We have been invited to all of the analyst meetings and socials and treated the same as anyone else.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor has been brilliant and is always available if I need to ask a question, need a sense check or just need someone to talk to. She has also made me really think about what I want to get out of my internship and has supported me in my personal development.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I have been incredibly busy for the majority of my placement but this was entirely through choice. I have been allowed to work independently and set my own objectives. I could have been far less busy but have found my work so interesting that I gave myself more to do.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • From the start I was given my own project which was quite open ended and I was able to develop my own project plan. The project I was given deal with a real problem for the business that would have been looked into by another analyst had I not been there so I really felt that I was contributing.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have gained so many new skills during by internship both technical and soft skills. My supervisor has particularly supported me in developing my leadership and communication skills. Also, as interns we have been able to attend any of the training sessions put on for other staff in the department and have access to a whole host of training resources.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office I was in was a fantastic environment in which to work. The atmosphere is relaxed and quite sociable meaning that everyone is always sat at each others desks asking for advice and talking trough problems. This was great as it made me feel very comfortable asking for help or suggestions on how I could do things better.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • On the whole the organisation of my internship was very good. Parts were organised centrally by the early careers team such as our induction session and a few master classes with the rest organised within our functions in the business. Everything organised within my function was brilliant and the only problems were when something hadn't quite been communicated properly between the early careers team and my function and vice versa.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Throughout the course of my internship I was given loads of time for training and development. In my weekly 1:2:1 will my supervisor we dedicated time to making sure I was gaining as much as possible from my internship. Also, my department ran many training and skill sharing sessions for analyst which I was invited to and which were really useful.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene in my department was great! As well as more organised events such as payday drinks and monthly socials, there is a really strong social culture in the department. People are always grabbing a cup of tea together in the kitchen and those who live locally meet in the pub every Friday evening.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Welwyn Garden City its self seems to have quite a high cost of living but there are plenty of places near by such as Hatfield which are cheaper. A pint costs around £4 in the local pubs which is fairly standard for the South but is a big shock for someone from the North of England!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Welwyn Garden City is essentially non existent but getting into London is really easy.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 4/5
