    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed working with Tesco technology. I enjoyed the team that I was able to work with and I enjoyed completing the work assigned to me. It was also great to meet and work with the other interns and graduates. I also enjoyed the various visits we completed outside of office such as to the CFC and data centre.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was welcomed and accepted in the team. I felt comfortable asking for help when I needed it whether it was regarding my assigned work or regarding my internship.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My intern supervisors were very friendly. They would always respond promptly to any questions I had. I also got wonderful guidance from my seniors who had completed the internship and graduate programmes in the previous years.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I wasn't too busy in the first few weeks of the internship. I had to understand and learn about the technologies they used before I could contribute. However I was relatively busy towards the end of the internship. I completed paired programming and also completed stories in the backlog.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I wasn't given too much responsibility within the team. I did though have timelines/deadlines assigned for the larger stories that I completed during paired programming .

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think my programming knowledge has greatly improved particularly in front end developing. I also was able to understand the ways a team can improve their performance during each sprint.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I enjoyed the team exercises we completed. I also enjoyed interacting with the other interns and graduates. However I do feel the general atmosphere in the office could be improved. My team didn't socialise much as a group.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement was generally well organised. We were able to able to take advantage of masterclasses and other learning opportunities. However, I believe the day trips and store placement could have been better organised. It was bit last minute and at an inconvenient time and day. For example the visit to CFC was not useful as it was on a stock count day (no machinery in use).

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Pluralsight was a very useful platform for developing my technological skills. I also believe the masterclass and agile session were insightful.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If I did well during the internship, then I had a good chance of being invites back to complete the graduate programme.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • It was great to meet fellow placement colleagues. We completed many events and trips together as a group.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It is in Hertfordshire. I live relatively close so my main cost of living was petrol. The cost of socialising was okay.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Didn't spend much time investigating the nightlife in the area I worked.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The charity challenge was a great opportunity to get involved outside work.
