    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my work placement at PwC. My time here has given me great experience that I will use within my studies when I return back to University and also later in life. The office was lovely and the people were very friendly to work with, both giving a great environment to work in.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was very valued by my colleagues throughout my time on my internship. From start to finish everybody within the office was extremely friendly which created a great environment to work within and train as I felt like I could approach anyone and ask them questions. Everybody who trained me treated me like professionally.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The managers and supervisors that I engaged with whilst on my internship were very friendly and approachable. They were informative and whenever I did ask them questions, they took them seriously and gave me great answers that really helped with my learning and understanding. Even when my manager was not in the office, it was very easy to get in contact with them.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was kept pretty busy on a daily basis but in a very good way. I always had a task to complete and whenever I finished I would ask for more work to do and get given a new task. This kept me busy and my time on my internship went very quickly due to this, but it was never implied that I had to stay late to complete a task.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Over the course of my placement, the responsibility given to me built up. At first I was given some responsibility and I did get thrown in with within my first week which was a great experience. Over time, the work which I was completing built up in complexity and it was great to be able to complete important tasks on my own with any help that I needed.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • From my internship I have gained valuable experience and knowledge that I will utilise whilst completing my studies and also after I graduate. Getting real experience within the work environment has given me great skills, building on existing ones and also creating new ones. My time has developed me in a positive way that will benefit me greatly in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere within the office was amazing. The office had a relaxed feel to it and the dress code was pretty casual. I was not worried about going into the office even though there is not real seating plan because everyone was really friendly meaning I felt very comfortable and at ease.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was very well organised, especially the induction within the first week. After that, I knew which jobs and clients I was assigned to sue to the online booking system which is very easy to use. Also, whenever I finished a task, there was always another lined up for me to do next so there were no periods where nothing was organised.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Considering my internship was only six weeks, the company invested a lot of time and effort into making sure I had good training and development. We were given great IT facilities and training courses to complete which really makes you feel appreciated and part of the team. In addition to this, a lot of time was spend on training which was greatly appreciated.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future prospects within the company are great and I would definitely want to return as a graduate. Due to wanting to complete my professional exams, the opportunity that is given at the company is great for wanting to qualify. As well as this, it seems there is more room for flexibility within the role which also is appealing.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a good social scene within the company with events happening quite frequently. On my internship there weren't that many students, but as an overall company I did feel welcomed and invited to company events that were organised. I felt like I was able to join these as part of the team.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in the area is quite cheap and the accommodation was affordable. This as well as the social side is sustainable and I have not had any worries as to the cost of living within the area. Saying this, the town is very built up and there is lots to do in the area and yet it is still affordable.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife within the area is good because the office is within the city and very close to the centre. I was not able to experience much of the nightlife as I was only working within the area for five weeks, but I have been told by others that it is good and also affordable.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Interns could get involved in the dragon's den scheme which pitted intern's business ideas (based on a predetermined theme - this year's was easing congestion) against each other. Aside from this most activities outside of work were either smaller, informal meetups between audit teams or large-scale mandatory corporate events - both equally fun. There was a large emphasis at PwC on maintaining a good work-life balance.
