    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship. Firstly I was able to satisfy my interest in client service. Being part of the Global Insurance team it was really interesting seeing how they interact with the firm's Insurance clients. Further I enjoyed being kept busy with a variety of tasks and challenges. Finally it was great to be a part of the wider internship, getting to know the other interns and attending training days formed another highlight for me.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have felt very valued by my colleagues this summer. Firstly via the tasks I have been assigned these past 10 weeks. Being involved in the Global Insurance Master Deck was a highlight from this perspective. Despite only being here 10 weeks I have been involved in the creation of presentation material that was to be pitched to existing clients and prospects which is an exciting and special task. Furthermore I have found that whenever I have asked to meet a colleague for a quick catch-up to hear a little more about their role they have always put in the time to come and see me.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have been given plenty of guidance from my manager this summer. It is a very nerve racking first couple of weeks and it was [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] my line manager who welcomed me into the business fantastically. In addition throughout my internship we have had a number of catch-ups to discuss my progress and think about my development.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was exceedingly busy on a daily basis. First of all I had my underlying Internship projects to get on with. In addition to these I had to be able to respond to additional tasks according to the team's needs (and these often took up a good proportion of my day). Finally I also wanted to make sure I was networking across the business and building not only my knowledge but forming relationships as well.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given plenty of responsibility this summer. First of all with the tasks I had been given. There was very little handholding involved and I have felt this has lead to my increased development this summer. Further the actual tasks I have undertaken were adding business value. In addition to the aforementioned master deck I also undertook a Review of the Client Relationship Management system Salesforce which will be very useful to the team moving forward.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed this summer will no doubt assist me moving forward in my career. First of all I have received a key amount of knowledge of a global player in the Asset Management Industry. Secondly I have learnt to approach problems from a different angle. Taking a step back and creating a survey in my review was something that was key to that task's success. I have also developed my interpersonal skills this summer and moving forward these will certainly be useful.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great atmosphere in the office. In my initial weeks I felt very welcomed by the team which was great. The friendly atmosphere extended across the office and I felt everyone I came across was approachable. As I said earlier I set up a number of catch-ups with people across this firm and everyone I met with was very nice indeed.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • From a central perspective the Internship training was very well organised. I thoroughly enjoyed the numerous training days and events we attended this summer. The Charity Challenge was a particular highlight- I enjoyed the public speaking aspect to this. It was also great to be exposed to some of the company's leaders in these 10 weeks and draw on their knowledge too.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Definitely felt invested in.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very attracted by the graduate scheme at ASI. The distribution scheme allows a successful applicant to rotate across various teams in the firm on 6 month rotations. This is a really great opportunity to gain exposure to the variety of distribution roles in the firm and potentially discover where you might fit best.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes very social great to make some good friends this summer. A number of us would often go to lunch together each day. This was a good break from the office and I often felt more refreshed getting back to my desk. One negative was buying lunch each day but worth it for the fun we had on our breaks!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Great fun.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not linked to the internship, but that was fine as I was normally busy doing my own thing outside work hours.
