    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed it a lot - it was one of the best internships I have ever done. The company's values and atmosphere are exactly what I would expect of a company and exactly what I've been looking for. I'm giving it a 9, not a 10 because of the project I did (most times I was blocked by outside circustances such as no access to data).

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone here is so friendly and helpful. That is one of the most important things in a company - to feel that you're a part of the team, part of something bigger. My colleagues were one of the best people I have ever met and they would always make me feel valued.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My placement leader was one of the best supervisors I have ever had. He would always leave me to do my own work without interrupting or any guidance because he knew that was the best way to learn. However, if I struggled too much or just asked him for help, he would always find time to walk me through solving the problem.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The project I had to do involved different to different types of data and that meant there was a lot of times when I had to just wait for data. However, since I am just an intern, getting the access to the data was a struggle and involved a lot of people. Fortunately, my colleagues were always helpful and tried to do everything they can.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a whole project to work on and my placement leader tried to have the least amount of involvement in it and to leave me do the project on my own. Whenever I needed help, though, he would be happy to show me how it is done. My teammate and I were the ones who made all the decisions for the project (with some guidance from our colleagues of course).

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt so many things during this internship and I developed not only technical skills, but my soft skills as well. Everything I learnt here and the skills I developed will help me in the future because these are the technologies that are used in many companies. Another benefit is that because I developed my soft skills as well, I am well prepared for working in any company from now on.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was very flexible and enjoyable. No one breathed down my neck to see what I'm doing or how much work I've done or when I come into the office or when I leave the office. The best thing about the company is that it gives us freedom because it believes that happy employees do much better work in general.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well organised. In the beginning, though, my placement leader didn't belong to any Scrum team and we didn't really have user stories and a way to manage our project. However, towards the middle of the internship, we gathered with some other colleagues and created a team that used the Agile project management system.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had personal training in the beginning that get us to know all the rules in the company and how things work. The company also invests in outside courses such as Pluralsight so that employees can self-develop. It is very helpful because there are new technologies that I haven't used before and the courses helped me get back on track.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to work here because this company has everything I have ever looked for. It also provides various of roles in different parts in industry, so one can always change if they don't like what they are working on currently. Another benefit is that one can have many careers in just one company.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • From the beginning the recruiters set up a WhatsApp group chat for all of the interns and we've been using it for socializing. There are a lot of social and community events that are organized by the recruiters for us as well that make the average internship more appealing, relaxing and fun.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The area I work in is usually cheaper, but there are not many things to do in the town. However, Brighton is quite close to work, so most employees here live there. It is more expensive, though, as it is quite close to the beach and a lot of tourists come to visit it.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The place where I worked there wasn't much nightlife, but it is close to Brighton where there is a lot of things to do for the night and places to go out. We usually went out every Friday and Saturday to party at different clubs or pubs (depends on the mood, but it never depended on how much work we had since it was a very relaxed atmosphere).

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are a lot of opportunities organized or sponsored by the company to do outside of work. That is because it takes great care of it employees, values them and tries to create the best place to work at. There are a lot of volunteering events as well where employees can get involved in helping the society.
