4.5/5
Great vacation scheme. I was able to do a good variety of work, there was the right balance of working in departments versus info/Q&A sessions and fun social events.
I felt very valued, for example being given tasks by partners, and having the contexts of each matter carefully explained. I also felt I was able to see the impact of my work.

The firm gave an excellent insight into the world of insurance law, which for me was a definite highlight as not many firms focus on that sector, and among those that do RPC is a leading firm in many areas. The quality of the work was excellent as well. For example, I was able to do a good amount of drafting, whereas some schemes you might only do proofreading tasks.
Very well structured. The only slight change that could be made here would be to place the introductions to commercial/insurance law both right at the beginning.
An excellent atmosphere. The office felt busy and people would engage with each other regularly to collaborate, which is good to see.
The firm arranged two feedback sessions at the end of each week, which were invaluable as opportunities to discover any areas for improvement and areas in which you are doing well.
It gave an excellent understanding. It felt like I actually worked there while I was there, not just that I was 'visiting' for a couple of weeks. In addition, being able to go for coffee breaks with lawyers meant you could ask what the job was really like and receive honest answers.

It helped me decide the extent to which I might want to focus on litigation, as well as the importance of sector focuses in areas like insurance and media.
In addition to the weekly remuneration, we each had £70 put on our firm cards to be used at the cafeteria. This was great, as it meant you didn't have to think twice about having lunch there, enabling you to mix with staff and other vac scheme students However, for most of us £70 exceeded our needs, so it was a little disappointing having to return a large portion of the money back at the end of the scheme!
Yes, there were two 'speed networking' events with trainees and associates, a lunch with partners and associates and two or three social events attended by junior lawyers and HR staff.
Great. The speed networking could perhaps have been improved by being more 'one-on-one'.
Yes. For example, we could attend the pride march with RPC on the middle weekend, which a few of us did.
Yes. One of the best vacation schemes I have attended.
