    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship. The team were very welcoming and the work I was given interesting and engaging. I was very lucky to have such a supportive line manager. In terms of personal experience it's a 10 but I couldn't give that because I know I have been fortunate and my experience is not representative.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The topic I was given to research was an unpopular one, however, I always felt comfortable to approach the team nearby and I feel like they valued my contribution and opinions.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was really supportive throughout my entire experience. He was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the business and was great in helping me get the most out of my 10 weeks here.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I would say in the first few weeks my workload was predominantly research/ GPL/ getting to know the business. But once I started on my objectives work it was really busy but not too much pressure. However, as my time draws to a close it has dwindled.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My line manager allowed me to help me conduct and internal panel and a larger review of a business process. This has been really enjoyable and by producing the output document I feel I have been given sufficient responsibility for my role and have been able to act independently.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the majority of the skills I've learnt won't assist me in my degree studies but they will assist me in later life. The interpersonal skills, networking skills, professional business skills and systems usage will all help me in future jobs as I apply. This was especially important for me having not worked in a corporate environment before.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really friendly. Everyone was very welcoming and despite all of them having their own work to do they were all very accommodating and willing to field any queries you had.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I really liked the structure of the internship. I liked the fact there was a project to revert back to if you were running out of things to do and two individual projects for your line manager. I also liked how there were spotlight sessions every other week. The only suggestion I would make would be to have another intern event halfway through. Because some interns from other areas of the business you would see once at the beginning and once at the end.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It was very much what you made of it. Initially, there was compulsory training to bring awareness. After that it was all optional but you were definitely made aware of it with the circulation of emails.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • In terms of work culture, the organisation is very appealing as everyone is driven and friendly. However, it would depend on job roles and structure of those roles.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yeah there was. I went for lunch and nights out with other interns from the programme. They hosted 2 intern event but I feel they could've done a bit more as we were all spread around London.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's London so it was expensive.

  • Good but very expensive.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not really. We had the odd drinks and a bank wide event but not very often.
